• Have the relations between men and women changed with reference to education, roles and opportunities?

Yes ,the roles and relations have definitely changed with reference to education as now many more girls are pursuing higher education and are getting more opportunities in the corporate field. Both men and women are been given equal opportunities.

• Were there differences in upbringing of boys and girls?Most of the families had no difference between the upbringing of boys and girls but girls were not allowed to move out late night for security reasons. The objective for boys to pursue higher education was to take up a job and help them move forward in their careers.Girls pursued higher education only as a safeguard for future eventualities.

• Did boys and girls have the same rights to education at school?

• Yes, most of the families surveyed had same rights to early school education but higher education was not pursued by all ,earlier. These days, many more girls are going for professional courses.

• Did women have the same salaries compared to men?

Though salaries did not differ at the same grade, there were fewer women reaching higher grades compared to men.

• How was household work divided among men and women?

Most of the men did not help much at home. It was primarily the responsibility of the women to manage even if she was working .The situation has changed for the better now,where bothmen and women divide household work.

Do we consider women to be completely emancipated in 2014?

• Women are still not considered to be completely emancipated.

• Rural areas still have a long way to go.

• Lack of education, violence against women and lack of financial independence in various strata

of society lead to the difference.

Has the position of women changed in the society with the help of government?

• Our constitution provides for equal rights to both men and women .Many laws have been enacted to ensure Equal pay for Equal work, prevent domestic violence, and for reservation of seats for women in local bodies.

• Government has also set up many programmes that uplift the

position of women in the field

of education at the work place.

For Teenagers in 2014:Are there differences between girls and boys with

reference to choice of schools and education and tasks in the household?

• No, at present there is no difference between girls and boys with reference to choice of any course of studies, many of which were male dominated earlier.

• Even at taking decisions and doing household tasks equal rights are given to both boys and girls.

Answers of grandparents:

• Women not given equal opportunities as men in the field of education .

• Most of the household work was done by women.Similarities

• A few grandparents were given equal opportunities to go out and enjoy with friends.

• Many grandparents(women) were allowed to work outside in teaching or medical professions.

Answers of parents:

• No difference in the upbringing of boys and girls, while girls were not stopped from pursuing their education boys had to build up a good career.

• A few parents still have a view that household work is the primary duty of women even if she is working.

Answers of the grandparents and parents:

• Boys and girls were given equal rights to education and similar upbringing in family.

• Men were supposed to do outside work and women were supposed to handle household work.

• More and more women as parents started working and pursuing career in various fields.

• A few parents found a lot of openness for career, women and equal participation from men at home.
