Unemployability percentage in various job sectors

12.48 million people flood job markets every year. 3.6 million of them are graduates. 1.6 million graduates of them are reported unemployable.

Due to this high unemployability rate

there is huge reduction in quality of work and in job sustainability.

CAUSE OF UNEMPLOYABILITY

A Flawed Education System The present education system does not train the student to be an employee.

There is lack of seriousness relating to vocational education system. The present efforts of upskilling are not fruitful. India’s prime skill development initiative has a success rate of mere 17.6%

Page 3: Vaasuki

CASE STUDY OF EMPLOYABILITY OF TECHNICAL GRADUATES IN INDIA Even though India produces 5 lakh graduates annually, a mere 17.45% of them are employable in major job sectors. Moreover only 2.68% of them are ready to be deployed directly on the projects. Employability decreases logarithmically with the number of colleges in the state (Arrow’s hypothesis)

THE LACUNA IN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM By Purcell and Pitcher report, 1996, 40% of graduate jobs are indifferent to applicants’ subject of study. 54% of engineers are rejected because they are not soft skill trainable in a short period of time. Apart from the top 100 colleges majority of stud- ents lack the required employability skills.

Thus the need of the hour is skill training.

Formation of

Committee

Structuring of the

education system

Parallel Training

Programme

Evaluation and

Certification

The Committee will consist of the Government Representatives ,Representatives from Companies & Social Scientist appointed by the Government & approved by the companies.

An extensive research programme will be conducted to devise the scope & structure of the syllabus.

This programme will be running Parallel to the current education system in synchronization with the educational institutions so as not to affect the values of the current system.

The present system will formulate a strict evaluation system based on theoretical as well as practical skills based on standards set by the committee

We present a parallel education system that will be made on the following steps:

Page 5: Vaasuki

The committee is structured as follows:

The process of formation of the committee :

• Official meetings will have to be conducted comprising of government representatives & representatives from various companies to discuss about the importance, relevance & necessity of the committee.

Inviting major recruiters

• Online and offline forums will have to be setup to invite all the companies of the country to give their views and suggestions on the motion.

Open membership for all companies

• Appointed by the government and approved by the member companies, these scientists will justify the aptness of the proposal of the members in context of the society.

Basic education structure

Syllabus Faculty

recruitment

The committee will formulate the scope of syllabus which will be based on the demands of the companies . An extensive research will be carried out by the social scientists that will focus on the student psychology on vocational education.

Following employability skill can be considered for formulating the syllabus : - •Communication skill •Organizational skills •Team work •Computer operating skills •Working under pressure and deadlines

Setting up of standards as the frame of reference, the committee will formulate the syllabus.

•Negotiation skill • Ability to learn and adapt • Using your initiatives and being self motivated • Problem solving skills

Page 7: Vaasuki

The different definitions, interpretations and approaches used across sectors and even within sectors creates confusion about expectations. The social scientists will therefore bridge up the gaps between the companies for set setting up the standards of employability. Based on these facts the syllabus will be formulated which will be approved by the companies and accepted by the government

Faculty recruitment 1)Initially teacher recruitment will be from three sources: a)Companies will provide employees who can teach but they will have to be approved by the committee. b)Various college teachers who will be approved by the committee will be given employment. c)A walk in interview will be conducted for other appointees 2) The government will provide added benefits and UGC scale salary to attract further teachers. Moreover a new job sector will be created which will attract further teachers. The alumni of will also return as teachers. The system will feed itself.

A parallel training system is structured as follows: 1)Identification of the nodal centres A number of colleges with a critical student strength decided on the basis of the teacher student ratio will be identified as the nodal centers. 2)Conducting of the classes Via dialogues and discussions each and every college will be allotting classes to complete the required syllabus. The college will have complete freedom of choosing their own schedule. 3)Allotment of teachers Teachers will be allotted giving preference to their proximity of place of residence. 4)Structuring of classes Our training programme is to be conducted mostly through interactive classes and practical teaching. For which the classes to be structured in small groups with each group consisting of approximately 60 students and one teacher.

Evaluation and Certification 1)Evaluation Procedure: a)The evaluation system will be a two stage process: 1)Theoretical Assessment: A nationwide theoretical examination will be conducted with strict monitoring and evaluation system. 2)Practical Assessment: A practical assessment will be conducted on the basis of standards set by the committee and activities and projects to be judged by the teachers themselves. 2)Certification Procedure: The certificate and a grade sheet will be provided on the basis of the exam conducted. Based on these grades the companies will set their respective cutoff grades for recruitment of new employees. As a result this certificate will certify at the same time scale the the eligibility of the students as an employee.

RELATIVE ANALYSIS WITH THE DAY PRGRAMMES: 1)NSDC has failed to create awareness for employability education. We on the other hand are introducing it as an interactive course. 2)NSDC has failed to attract big companies. Our system is extensively organised and exclusively depicts the role of the member companies. Hence, we’ll be able to incur more major recruiters. 3)Unemployability increases with education. But NSDC focuses less on graduates. Whereas, our programme is at par with the present day graduate students.

CHALLENGES: 1)Maintaining a high teacher : student ratio. 2)Funding 3)Initial participation of students MITIGATION: 1) The solution to this problem has been well explained in our faculty section. 2) The funding of our project will be in PPP mode. The companies are interested in creating skilled workforce. The present problem is just lack of planning which we solve and thus we will attract investment. 3) Advocation by major recruiters about their involvement and the recognition and value they attach with certificate.

Impact of the programme

1) This system will produce more ready-to-deploy graduates as it will provide specialised training to the students so that they can withstand this competitive corporate era.

2) This system will create more job opportunities in the form of teachers for this programme.

3) This system will create more awareness for job related education as we are proposing its introduction as a part of their syllabus.

4) Since the students are given specialised education, the quality of employees and thus, the efficiency of the companies will be increased.

5) It will increase the demand of Indian employees in the international market.

6) It will also increase the job sustainability.

7) Unemployment caused due to the employability of the youth will be removed.
