WHAT IS MEANT BY “SIGNS OF THE TIMES”?

• Luke 16:2b to 3When it is evening, you say, “It will be fair weather; for the sky is red.” And in the morning, “It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and threatening.” You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but you cannot interpret the signs of the times.• Luke 12:54-56When you see a cloud rising in the west, you say at once, «A shower is coming»; and so it happens. And when you see the south wind blowing, you say, «There will be scorching heat»; and it happens. You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky; but why do you not know how to interpret the present time? (RSV) …discern this time (KJV)

WHAT EVENT/S DO THEY REFER TO?

• Matthew 24: 1-4Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. 2 And Jesus said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”

THE SECOND COMING AND THE “END OF THE AGE”

So the “signs of the times” REFER TO:1. THE SIGNS SIGNALLING THE SECOND

COMING OF JESUS, 2. which is associated with the END OF THE

AGE.Matthew 24:3 “…. and what shall be the sign of your coming, and of the end of the world (age)?“

“END OF THE WORLD” OR “END OF THE AGE”?

Matthew 13:39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world (age); and the reapers are the angels.

v. 49 So shall it be at the end of the world (age): the angels shall come forth, and sever (separate) the wicked from among the just.

WHAT KIND OF MESSAGE IS THIS?

• DOOM or HOPE?• The answer of the Scriptures is BOTH:

1. DOOM for those who refuse to recognize and trust the Lord Jesus Christ

2. HOPE AND ASSURANCE for those who put their trust in the Lord

BUT DOES IT MEAN THAT THE WORLD WILL DISAPPEAR,

OR CEASE TO EXIST? ANNIHILATED?

• It does NOT MEAN annihilation, or that there will be no more earth

• “One generation passeth away, and another generation cometh: but the earth abides for ever.” -- Ecclesiastes 1:4

THEN WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

REVELATIONS 21:

1 ”Then I saw “A NEW HEAVEN AND A NEW EARTH,”[a] for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. …

3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’[b] or mourning or crying or pain, FOR THE OLD ORDER OF THINGS HAS PASSED AWAY.”

5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I AM MAKING EVERYTHING NEW!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

“THE END” therefore MEANS:

• This world as we know it, and these times as we know them, will have an END in the sense that:

- God will someday JUDGE all people- Christ will ESTABLISH HIS PHYSICAL REIGN on

EARTH (meaning He will come back!)- The Lord will RENEW THE HEAVENS AND THE

EARTH, there will be a NEW HEAVEN AND A NEW EARTH

SO WHEN THE BIBLE says “SIGNS OF THE TIMES”, it refers to

• THE TIMES of TRANSITION FROM THE OLD WORLD TO THE NEW WORLD

• This transition WILL INVOLVE MANY EVENTS AND HAPPENINGS, called SIGNS, THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN FORETOLD BY THE BIBLE

• To “READ THE TIMES” or “INTERPRET THE TIMES” SIMPLY MEANS TO OBSERVE EVENTS IN THE WORLD AND CHECK THEM OUT IN THE BIBLE IN REFERENCE TO THE COMING AGAIN OF JESUS AND THE “END OF THE AGE” OR THE “END OF THE WORLD”

HOW CAN WE KNOW?REV. 1:19 “Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and WHAT WILL TAKE PLACE LATER.”

AMOS 3:7 “Surely, the Sovereign Lord does nothing without revealing His plan to His servants the PROPHETS.”

WHAT SHOULD BE OUR POSTURE?

MATTHEW 24:42, 44“Therefore, KEEP WATCH, because you do not know what day your Lord will come; …So you also MUST BE READY, because the Son of man will come AT AN HOUR when you do not expect Him.”

CAN WE KNOW WHEN IT IS NEAR?MATTHEW 24:33

YOU KNOW that IT IS NEAR, RIGHT AT THE DOOR.”

hour no man knows, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.

THEREFORE, WE MUST

WATCHING, AND BEING READY.

DO I HAVE TO LISTEN TO THIS?1 Thessalonians 5:3 “For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then

sudden destruction will come upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.”

IT IS BETTER TO BE READY AND PREPARED, THAN TO IGNORE ALL THESE SIGNS AND BE CAUGHT UNPREPARED.

So we will look out for signs of the last days:

NOW WHAT IS THE “LAST DAYS”?

• 2 Timothy 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

• Hebrews 1:2 (God) has in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds.

So technically, the term “last days” refer to the last 2,000 years from the time of Christ up to the present time.

BUT THERE IS ALSO THE “LAST HOUR”

• I JOHN 2:18 (RSV)“Children, it is the last hour; and as you have

heard that (the) Antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come; therefore we know that it is the last hour.”

THE “LAST DAYS” HAS A “LAST HOUR”.The “last hour” is when the ANTI-CHRIST

appears. THIS IS A SIGN WE NEED TO WATCH.

THERE IS ALSO THE “END TIMES”

• Daniel 12:4 ...'But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end.‘

• This is where we got the term “end times” or time of the end

THE NATURAL SIGNS:

INCREASE IN EARTHQUAKES?

• Trends since 1986• For example, between 1986 and 1996 (incl), a period of 11

years, there were "just" 15 earthquakes listed by USGS of magnitude 7.0 or greater. This is not markedly different (albeit a slight decrease) from previous (similar periods) of 20th century, where an average of about 18 might be expected.

• But between 1997 and 2007 (incl), a period of only 11 years, there were 99 EARTHQUAKES with magnitude 7.0 or greater : This is more than a six-fold increase on the previous similar period - and is a stark increase on any earlier decades in 20th century too.

• Earlier this week, a cluster of dozens of little earthquakes occurred under the Salton Sea in southernmost California over the course of a couple of days. Most were too tiny to feel, and the largest—of magnitude 2.3—wasn’t big enough to be remarked upon. Specialists call this kind of thing an earthquake swarm, and while it seems like swarms ought to be telling us something, nobody yet has figured out what.

Earthquake swarms getting more frequent:• Near Mexicali, along the Cerro Prieto Fault, over 500 quakes

and aftershocks occurred during a two-week period in February 2008.[5]

• Between February 2011 and December 2011 more than 500 earthquakes were recorded during the 2011 Christchurch earthquakes, with 31 of them greater than magnitude 5.

• In 2013, the Santa Cruz Islands had been experiencing a large earthquake swarm with many magnitude 5 and 6 earthquake occurring since January and continuing into February. This later turned out to be a series of foreshocks that led up to the 8.0 2013 Solomon Islands earthquake on February 6.

RFID 'Powder' - The World's Smallest RFID

• The world's smallest and thinnest RFID tags were introduced yesterday by Hitachi. Tiny miracles of miniaturization, these RFID chips (Radio Frequency IDentification chips) measure just 0.05 x 0.05 millimeters. 

The previous record-holder, the Hitachi mu-chip, is just 0.4 x 0.4 millimeters. Take a look at the size of the mu-chip RFID tag on a human fingertip.  Now, compare that with the new RFID tags. The "powder type" tags are some sixty times smaller. 

The new RFID chips have a 128-bit ROM for storing a unique 38 digit number, like their predecessor. Hitachi used semiconductor miniaturization technology and electron beams to write data on the chip substrates to achieve the new, smaller size. 

Hitachi's mu-chips are already in production; they were used to prevent ticket forgery at last year's Aichi international technology exposition. RFID 'powder,' on the other hand, is so much smaller that it can easily be incorporated into thin paper, like that used in paper currency and gift certificates.  Science fiction fans will have a field day with this new technology

SOME STATES PASSED LAW PROHIBITING IMPLANTATION

• Following Wisconsin and North Dakota,[28] California issued Senate Bill 362 in 2007, which prohibits employers and others from forcing anyone to have a RFID device implanted under their skin.[28]

• On April 5, 2010, the Georgia Senate passed Senate Bill 235 that prohibits forced microchip implants in humans and that would make it a misdemeanor for anyone to require them, including employers. The bill would allow voluntary microchip implants, as long as they are performed by a physician and regulated by the Georgia Composite Medical Board. If the General Assembly passes the new Senate version, Georgia would join California, North Dakota and Wisconsin in banning mandatory microchip implant.[citation needed]

• On February 10, 2010 Virginia's House of Delegates also passed a bill that forbids companies from forcing their employees to be implanted with tracking devices.[29]

• Washington State House Bill 1142-2009-10 orders a study using implanted radio frequency identification or other similar technology to electronically monitor sex offenders and other felons.[30]

ALREADY USED IN SOME OFFICES• MEXICO CITY, MEXICO - Security has reached the subcutaneous level for Mexico's

attorney general and at least 160 people in his office - they have been implanted with microchips that get them access to secure areas of their headquarters.

• Mexico's top federal prosecutors and investigators began receiving chip implants in their arms in November in order to get access to restricted areas inside the attorney general's headquarters, said Antonio Aceves, general director of Solusat, the company that distributes the microchips in Mexico.

• Attorney General Rafael Macedo de la Concha and 160 of his employees were implanted at a cost to taxpayers of $150 for each rice grain-sized chip.  More are scheduled to get "tagged" in coming months, and key members of the Mexican military, the police and the office of President Vicente Fox might follow suit, Aceves said. Fox's office did not immediately return a call seeking comment.  Aceves said his company eventually hopes to provide Mexican officials with implantable devices that can track their physical location at any given time, but that technology is still under development.

• The chips that have been implanted are manufactured by VeriChip Corp., a subsidiary of Applied Digital Solutions Inc. (ADSX) of Palm Beach, Fla.  They lie dormant under the skin until read by an electromagnetic scanner, which uses a technology known as radio frequency identification, or RFID, that's now getting hot in the inventory and supply chain businesses.  Erik Michielsen, director of RFID analysis at ABI Research Inc., said that in theory the chips could be as secure as existing RFID-based access control systems such as the contactless employee badges widely used in corporate and government facilities.
