Year 7 Focus Day – Self-Esteem
Thursday 30th January 2014Session A
1hour session run by tutor
What is self-esteem?
1. Discuss – what is self-esteem?2. Students describe each other’s strengths.3. Complete a personal inventory to identify
strengths and weaknesses.4. Discuss – Do you have a high or low self-
esteem? What is one thing you can do to build your self-esteem?
Session B
1hour session run by tutor
How can you affect someone’s self-esteem?
1. Discuss – How much do you think you can affect someone’s self-esteem?
2. Statement positive -> negative continuum. Students move along the continuum to show how statements make them feel.
3. Worksheet ‘The Power of Words’4. Discuss – How does self-esteem affect you?5. Students list negative things you have heard
people say and try to turn each of the statements into a positive.
6. Discuss – How might you know someone has low self-esteem? What can you do to help improve someone’s self-esteem?
Circle Time30min session run by form
tutor
Listening and speaking exercise to encourage communication between students in the form. 5 minute warm up activity to mix students up to
avoid cliques of friends. 20 minute complete the statements activity.
ARC (Kevin Woods)1hour session in the Gym
Workshop attended by 1 or 1 ½ tutor groups at a time. Please remain with the students in the gym.
Playright1 ½ hour session in the
Hall
½ the year group will be in the hall to watch a performance on self-esteem and take part in a
workshop. Please stay in the hall with your form group for the whole session.
