Year 7 Focus Day – Self-Esteem Thursday 30 th January 2014 Session A 1hour session run by tutor What is self-esteem? 1. Discuss – what is self-esteem? 2. Students describe each other’s strengths. 3. Complete a personal inventory to identify strengths and weaknesses. 4. Discuss – Do you have a high or low self-esteem? What is one thing you can do to build your self-esteem? Session B 1hour session run by tutor How can you affect someone’s self- esteem? 1. Discuss – How much do you think you can affect someone’s self-esteem? 2. Statement positive -> negative continuum. Students move along the continuum to show how statements make them feel. 3. Worksheet ‘The Power of Words’ 4. Discuss – How does self-esteem affect you? 5. Students list negative things you have heard people say and try to turn each of the statements into a positive. 6. Discuss – How might you know someone has low self-esteem? What can you do to help improve someone’s self- esteem? Circle Time 30min session run by form tutor Listening and speaking exercise to encourage communication between students in the form. 5 minute warm up activity to mix students up to avoid cliques of friends. 20 minute complete the statements activity.

workshop. Please stay in the hall with your form group for the whole session.
