Trainer’s Note Session: Keep it Simple

Details

Time 9.00-10.30 a.m. (90 minutes)

Participants 20

Topic Classroom language

Objectives By the end of the session, participants would be able to: 1. Identify the appropriate classroom language for different

needs. 2. use the classroom language in a controlled settings.

Aids Presentation slides, Noise meter, CHECK chart, 2 sets of number cards, Rules Chart, Decision Roulette App

Steps

1 (5 mins) 1. Introduce self and friends 2. Discuss the schedule of the workshop

2 (10 mins) 1. Introduction to the session (what is the session-language for classroom used, how is it going to be-morning circle, group discussion, 2 stay, 3 stray), and the objectives)

2. Rules of the workshop (be super cheerful, use EL all the time, put your mobile phones on vibrate, reward and reflection will be enforced, cooperate with your friends, silent signal, Observe the noise meter)

3. CHECK (Change attitude, Hold your head up, Expose yourself, Cheer up, Keep Talking)

4. Mouth-xercise (Breathe in and out, exaggerated mouth smile, kiss, move the mouth from left to right and make kiss sound), tongue in, out and circle (touch the jaw for checking of stress), /i/ /u/ /oo/

3 (25 mins) Morning Circle (the CPs will be the pupils and the trainer will be the teacher) 1. Teacher distributes number cards to the pupils. 2. Pupils match their number with the one on the floor and will sit. 3. Teacher begins by taking attendance and stating the morning

circle rules. 4. Greetings everybody in the group using the song, Pupil 1:Hello

(name of the person next to them) 2x, Pupil 2: Where are you?, Here I am 2x, How do you do? Pupil 1: Alhamdulillah, I’m great!

5. Teacher makes the pupils guess the topic of the day. Pupils then dip their hands in a box.

6. Pupils identify the object. Pupils sound the first letter. (learn 2 letters)

7. Teacher asks of other object they know sound the same. 8. Teacher explains on the class activity. 9. Teacher appoints a class helper by drawing the number (use

decision roulette app). The class helper will help teacher throughout the day.

10. Class helper leads the prayer.

4 (5 mins) Debrief: 1. What happened during the morning circle? 2. Observe the language used by the teacher? Is it appropriate? 3. What is the pacing of the spoken language? 4. How does the teacher introduces something new?

5 (15 mins) Group work 1. To divide the group, the trainer will call the number. 2. Each group will be given a task. They need to write the

classroom language assigned and learn to pronounce it properly.

-Classroom Language for the beginning of class, -Classroom Language for Simple Instruction, -Classroom Language for giving praises and reminder, -Classroom Language for ending the class.

6 (25 mins) Settler and Explorer Settler: Teach the explorer Explorer: Learn the materials by writing and pronouncing it and teach the settler when they return. When learning at the station, the settler will reward stickers for each sentence with correct pronunciation.

7 (10 mins) Debrief Conclusion of activities, restate the objectives of the session Reflection, parking lot
