The Toy Atlas Rainbow
is a wonderful
installation of 2,500 old
toy cars by UK artist
David T. Waller.
Land artist Michael Grab creates astonishing towers and orbs of balanced
rocks using little more than patience and an astonishing sense of balance.
Grab says the art of stone balancing has been practiced by various
cultures around the world for centuries and that he personally finds the
process of balancing to be therapeutic and meditative.
Photographer Alan Sailer spends an inordinate
amount of time photographing objects meeting a
violent demise by means of high speed projectiles,
high voltage explosions, and sometimes just hurling
things at a wall. I love the other-worldly appearance
some of the objects take on, especially the pear that
appears to be liquifiying from the inside out.
n his Broken Flower series photographer Jon Shireman soaked various
kinds of flowers in a liquid nitrogen bath for up to 30 minutes before
using a special spring-loaded contraption to slam them against a
surface at high speed. He then photographed the hundreds of
fragments spread across a white surface like sharp glass shards.
