WWII INFORMATION

World War II started in 1939 and ended in 1945

The countries that were involved in WWII were Britain, France, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, the Soviet Union, China and the United States

of America.

WHO WERE THE TUSKEGEE AIRMEN?

• Tuskegee airmen is the name of a Famous group of African-Military pilots who fought in World War II .

• They were the first African-American military aviators (pilots) in the United States Armed Forces.

• During World War II, black Americans, mainly in the U.S. were still subject to the Jim Crow laws. This law continued in force until 1956.

THE 'JIM CROW' LAWS

From the 1880s to 1956 Black people were legally segregated from White.

This meant that black people weren't aloud to mix with White people in schools, hospital, theatres, restaurant's and public waiting rooms.

This is why the Tuskegge men fighting in the war was such a great achievement.

THE SUPER-MARINE SPITFIRE❖ The spitfire was and is a great plane with its fast

speed that flies up to 350mph some spitfires had their speed increased by 25-34mph

❖ The Super-marine Spitfire Mark I was an elegant and agile fighting machine. The innovative design meant the plane could be upgraded with new engines and military weapons.

❖ Length -29ft 11 in, wing span- 36ft 10 in, weight- 5935bl, altitude- 34'409ft, frame- aluminium alloy

❖ The spitfire has a powerful engine called the Horsepower Merlin which gave it a maximum speed of 362 mph.

WHAT MADE THE SPITFIRE SO IMPORTANT?

❖ The Spitfire was known for winning victory laurels in the battle of Britain along with the Hawker hurricane.

❖ Many German pilots actually believed the Spitfire was better than their own planes. One German pilot even asked his commanding officer for a squadron of Spitfires.
