Welcome to STaR Chart Training!

Because KCISD and KHS care about their students, and because we are required as educators to use best practices in the classroom, I would like to welcome you to STaR Chart training.

It is my hope that you will take important information back to your classrooms after today’s training, and that you will use the information that you learn today to positively affect student learning.

Welcome to STaR Chart Training!

Before we begin, let’s think about our district’s mission statement:

Power Pause

In order to be powerful educators, we must reflect on our practices in the classroom. How are we meeting our district’s goal of “All the Kids, All the Curriculum, All the Time”?

How can we use everything at our disposal to meet this goal?

One way we can insure that we are meeting this goal is through the effective use of technology in our classrooms.

Introduction: Technology in Texas Schools

Technology is an integral part of our everyday lives.

Education is no exception. There are technology requirements

that teachers in Texas must fulfill. These are expressed through the TEKS,

the Texas Long-Range Technology Plan, district goals, and NCLB requirements.

Texas STaR Charts: Measuring Technology in Texas Schools

School Technology and Readiness Charts

Developed by Region 12 ESC The Texas STaR Chart is an assessment

tool created to analyze the four domains of the Texas Long-Range Technology Plan.

Why Do We Have STaR Charts?

STaR Charts help districts in several ways:› Determine NCLB Title II, Part D compliance› Determine Long-Range Technology Plan

compliance› Determine if district goals are being met› Determine if districts are meeting SBEC

and SBOE technology requirements.

Texas STaR Charts

All Texas teachers must complete STaR charts annually.

Campus and state data is available online for review by staff, community members, and other stakeholders.

This data can be used to determine levels of student success.

Recommendations KHS needs to increase its distance

learning capabilities and other classroom technology resources in order to increase its infrastructure capabilities and return them to the advanced level. › Most schools in Texas are already at the

advanced level in infrastructure. This puts our students at a disadvantage.

Page 24: Texas S Ta R Chart

Recommendations Departmental planning should include time

for integrating technology in the curriculum in an effort to raise the teaching & learning domain to advanced.

More professional development opportunities should be offered in order to increase domain two to advanced.

Administration should plan and budget creatively to increase domain three through staffing and purchasing, while the tech department should increase tech support, and make campus technology more user-friendly.

Recommendations & Evaluation

Please check your campus email for a workshop evaluation sheet. There is a space on your evaluation sheet for your own recommendations to improve our school’s use of technology.

Those who return their completed evaluations, including recommendations via email by the end of the day will be eligible to win a duty-free week in a drawing that will be held on Friday.
