10A. SECTION C –STARTING PLANNING by SUMMARISING RESEARCH FINDINGSSummary of all Research Findings- preparing for the formal proposal

A. Summary of Research done into general information about music magazines

Music magazines adapt to the period so they can continue to stay appealing.

You must give the audience what they want, in order for magazines to sell, this can be done by asking your target audience what they want, also by doing background research.

Each magazine needs to be unique and attract both those of the genre and maybe some who are interested.

There needs to be unknown information on an appealing role model

Most significantly the magazines market must be aware of AIDA

A – Attract audience, use of bright colours, image and textI – Interest, articles and sell lines should entice the audience. D – Desire, lure the reader by adding competitions, posters or give freebiesA – Act – people to buy your product, motivate them into purchasing, for example, creating a sense of urgency with a limited-time offer or limited supply.

B. Research into real music magazines (summary of findings)generic conventions of music magazines

Front covers must have; masthead at top barcode/price/date striking image (consistent with genre)

Contents pages have word “contents” at top date/issue number range of images all anchored with text and page number use columns for text with subheadings such as

features/gossip/gig guides etc tile of magazine is to be found somewhere on page contents clearly links with cover in terms of style and

genre

Page 3: Task 9 formal proposal

The Double Page Spread Article

very image dominated with image anchored with text Written article has dramatic main heading (short and

snappy) with subheading (summarising what article is going to be about)

The copy/text is written in paragraphs (generally between 2-3)

All 3 parts of the magazine are clearly connected using a range of elements including:

same font choices throughout (generally around 3 types) same colour scheme/themes magazine title/slogan is on all 3 pages Info on front is carried through into contents and then

onto article Contents are consistent with the chosen genre i.e Rock

magazines would feature Rock bands/music/scene/gigs etc Same style of language/attitude throughout i.e Rock

breaking the rules/rebellious attitude

Summary of Research into genre:My chosen genre is Rock and I found that:

The colours need to be dark The main image should reflect the genre There needs to be information on tour dates There must be revealing stories about the individual

CONTENTS PAGES I WOULD LIKE TO EMULATE (USE AS EXAMPLES FOR MY MAGAZINE)

ARTICLES I WOULD LIKE TO USE AS STYLE MODELS

C. Target audience research

I can conclude the following and will summarise how this will affect the making of my magazine:

1. THE COVER SHOULD BE : Dark and moody feature images of top indie bands (the most popular

artists were muse and the killers so i will base my fictional band on them

offer freebies and special offers for example any new band merchandise

Have revealing sell lines as well as rock related cover-lines

Be eye catching

2. THE CONTENTS SHOULD INCLUDE : Gossip such as… band info Images and information on the key points in the

magazine be rebellious/with attitude Some eye catching information from the articles

3. THE ARTICLE SHOULD BE : Informal, revealing and amusing include questions and answers have lots of images

Page 7: Task 9 formal proposal

Have questions in a different font to break up the text be about the music and some of the interviewees

personal opinions

4. GENERAL INFO The majority of my audience revealed they do not often

buy music magazine but they would consider a price of £2.50 to be fair and accurate.

I have to make my magazine appealing as there is a gap for this genre and target market. Attention must be drawn from the start and it must appeal to the younger generation’s preferences. Lastly I must continue my analysis so my magazine would sell better and I could get a broader idea on people’s views.

Having summarized these results I am now ready to complete my formal proposal and start planning my own music magazine.
