“Surveillance and Prevention of Swine influenza 2009 (H1N1)”
Surveillance data of Swine influenza 2009 (H1N1) of Bureau
of Epidemiology, Ministry of Health during 13 - 26 September
2009 had confirmed 297 cases of the illness in the last 14
days which found in 38 provinces. And number of patients
reporting flu in Thailand were 10,045 in 2009, making the
country with 81 deaths from swine influenza.
Therefore, Thung Phayathai Community has paved the way
for the preparation and surveillance to prevent the spread of
the flu in the area since 2009 until present. The latest
report for Rajathevi District since 2012 - 2014 found the
number of patients with influenza in 2009 at a total of 2,575
cases and no death. Phayathai Community has sought
cooperation and support, information and knowledge used
in the activities from Rajthevi District Office and Child Safety
Promotion and Injury Prevention Research Center, Faculty
of Medicine of Ramathibodi Hospital for surveillance to prevent the spread of the swine influenza 2009.

2.Establish the Surveillance Committee in
the community to prepare training
sessions to educate the youth.

3.Survey of patients with flu, provide an advice on self-care
for social responsibility. Collect community’s data weekly.
Train and make hand sanitizers and sanitary masks for risk
groups. Campaign of wearing sanitary masks to prevent
diseases for people with chronic disease, patients, and
children.

4.Prepare a place in the community if there is an outbreak.
Patient will be taken together in order to prevent the spread
from person to person. Until they are recovered from the flu
and ensure that is not infectious to others.
Results
The community has surveillance system, various tools,
learning media, and guidance on surveillance of the spread of
the swine influenza 2009 in the community. The data is
collected weekly by recording the risk spots and surveying symptoms of patients in their own community.
Conclusions
During an outbreak of the swine influenza 2009 in Thailand,
many agencies with the community educated people,
produced media, and had surveillance of the influenza.
Some areas may not have received information thoroughly
and this is one of the reasons why some people in the
community do not understand the surveillance of the
influenza.
