Plans and reviews SoLs on the lessons learned from the previous term. Makes links to other subjects to secure skills being taught in a cross-curricular way. Designs assessments to help students progress. Plans feedback lessons using portfolios of work which may be exemplary or demonstrates missed opportunities and misconceptions. Compiles portfolios to demonstrate how teaching is helping pupils progress. Identify the times and stages the department will teach and assess skills crucial to achievement Clarify the skills that need to be taught such as trigger words, phrases, length, shape and structure of answers Model techniques such as methodology, resources or past paper questions Make clear links to level and grades so that each lesson and assessment provides an opportunity for at least some new aspect of a level or grade to be learned. This should be evident from Y7 onwards. Balance teaching content and skills for success in exams Schedule assessments clearly according to a manageable calendar. Teacher Identifies past paper questions at GCSE/A’Level or agreed questions at KS3 Teaches skills such as ‘describe’, ‘explain’, ‘evaluate’ and ‘analyse’. Lessons are differentiated in respect of these skills. Models answers Student Practises the structure and technique necessary for making progress. Teacher Assesses formatively during the term. Student Answers the question under exam conditions (in class or even elsewhere). Practises marking in a feedback lesson. Peer assesses. Responds to the teacher comment in terms of WWW and EBI. Teacher Moderates peer assessment outcomes and identifies areas for the pupil progress with the students and in lesson planning. Assessment outcomes are added to the departmental portfolio.
