Participants

Project owner: Danish Electronic Research Library (DEFF)

Participating universities:- Aalborg University Library- State and University Library- Copenhagen University Library- Roskilde University Library- University Library of Southern Denmark- CBS Library- Technical Information Center of Denmark

The aim of the project

• To create an improved basis for decisions regarding journal acquisition (licenses) to support research and development at the Danish universities– By examining the researchers’ publishing, citation and

reference methods– By demonstrating the use of university library budgets

on license purchases

Page 4: Statistical Tool for Licence Acquisition (STOLA)

The goal of the project

• Help to identify whether the choice of materials is adequate in relation to researchers' publishing behavior.

• Analyses of data will help clarify which journals and licenses should be top priority on the shopping lists of university libraries.

• Results can be used in close conjunction with the Bibliometric Research Indicator and could be linked to any future analyses of specific and "hot or not" research areas and strategies.

Existing statistics

• Download statistics (retrospective) shows knowledge about the use of subscribed licenses

• Turn away statistics shows knowledge about titles/years in existing licenses to which users try to get access

• Interlibrary Loan statistics provide knowledge about journals ordered by users from other libraries

Content in the STOLA database

• Extract from Ulrich’s (equivalent to the Danish Bibliometric Research Indicator)

• Impact factors– SIF (Scopus Impact Factor)– JIF (Journal Impact Factor)– Bibliometric Research Indicator

• Upload of no-match lists from libraries

Input from Universities

• Current subscriptions (e.g. from the local link resolver)• Publishing – in which journals are we publishing? (Local

Research Information System (CRIS) with supplement extracts from Scopus and ISI)

• Citations – in which journals are we cited? (Extract from Scopus and ISI)

• References – which journals are we referring to? (Extract from Scopus and ISI)

• Interlibrary Loan activities

Conclusions

• Identification of subscribed journals in relation to publishing behavior - yes

• Better priority for future acquisition - yes• “Hot or not” areas of research in collaboration with the

BFI - not tested

The future(Roskilde University Library, Aalborg University Library and

Technical Information Center of Denmark)

• Improved database• Upload of additional files• Possibility to see each others data• Data

– Quantity– Quality

• Possible ad-hoc analysis• Search and display of individual titles
