Scania Driver Experience provides both Category C training for rigids and Category C+E training for articulated tractor units

Gaining the entitlement to drive all types of truck is a two-stage process which involves passing two tests known as Category C and Category C+E.

Passing your Category C test allows you to drive two-, three- and four-axle rigid trucks. Once you hold a Category C licence, you will then be eligible to progress to Category C+E, which enables you to also drive articulated vehicles.

Following your free assessment, both our Category C and Category C+E courses are typically five days in duration and include a mock test. During this time our specialist in-house instructors will prepare you for every aspect of your vehicle's operation, including safety behind the wheel and on the road, understanding and using the controls, driving on all types of roads, manoeuvring, planning and awareness.

Available to anyone aged 18 or above who holds a full car (Category B) licence, subject to medical requirements, the Scania Driver Experience PCV course will prepare you for your Category D licence, which enables you to drive rigid buses and coaches with either two- or three-axles.

Following your free assessment, courses are typically five days in length. All training is carried out in our own full size coach and our aim is for you to achieve a driving ability which exceeds the standard required to pass your driving test.

The areas covered throughout the course include Vehicle Safety, Use of Controls, Manoeuvring, Awareness, Planning and Fuel Efficient Driving. At the end of each day your progress will be assessed, and your training will include a mock test in preparation for your Category D driving test.

Category B+E training

If you have passed a car driving test (Category B) after 1 January 1997 you will need to pass a Category B + E trailer test if you plan to tow a trailer behind a car or light van. Examples of these trailers include plant trailers, car trailers, horse trailers and most caravans.

Trailer driver licensing can appear very complicated at first, so please contact 0844 800 9131 with the details of the vehicle and the trailer type that you will be using and we can advise accordingly.

Scania Driver Experience provides Category B+E training for all Category B (car/van) licence holders in our own vans and trailers. With courses specially designed to meet your own specific needs and available at times to suit you, our training covers all aspects of B+E operation, including:

A Category B+E licence allows post-January 1997 licence holders to tow trailers similar to those illustrated here
