Where did I find the articles?

• I looked mostly on ERIC and EBSCOhost. They are very helpful in finding articles. I liked how I was able to look at the abstract of the article then I can see the whole thing if I wanted.

Emotional Problems

• Behavioral and emotional problems and mental health are put into categories, mainly three different ones. They are Special education for non mental health students, special education for mental health students and students who are not in special education. This site is showing you the sizes of the different groups and how they compare to the other groups.

Emotional Problems

• Students with mental health problems are only considered in this group if their problem is interfering with their class work. If a student is classified into one of these groups they get a contract to help keep them focused on their goals they make for their students.

Emotional Problems

• I agree with this article and how they showed a different side to special education. They did not just show the disability part they showed that mental health is a factor in figuring out if a student needs to be in a special education classroom.

Why Children Misbehave?

• Children misbehave for a lot of different reasons but this article gives you four different reasons and it explains how adults should deal with these actions. “Every action of the child has a purpose. (Pepper, Floy C.)” Children think that misbehaving is going to help them gain whatever their eye is set on. There are four different types of misbehaving.

Why Children Misbehave?

• The four different types of misbehaving are AGM (attention getting mechanism) which means he is misbehaving just for attention. Power seeking is to prove his power to defeat adults and revenge seeking is to hurt someone who has hurt them. Last but not least is real disability which is to display deficiency to be left alone. Teachers should also be aware of these types of behavior so their classroom can have less distractions.

Why Children Misbehave?

• I do believe that teachers need to have some parenting skills also such as knowing what causes children to misbehave. Knowing these things can help teachers keep their class under control and it helps the success of the whole room.

Minorities in Special Education

• Special education is very good for the students with actual disabilities. But what about the students without the special need but are in the classroom anyway? Minorities are often put in this category. The affects of this grouping can stick with them their whole life. Students may need some help but that does not mean they need to be put in special education, they just need some one on one help to understand better.

Minorities in Special Education• Table 1• Is much of special education justifiable?• The massacre/magic of “If,” “Then”• _______________________________________________________________________• The massacre:• If differ hues of skin color irritate your eyes and white has become your favorite• color, much of special education is not justifiable;• If energized students in the classroom make you uncomfortable and you insist that• they sit quietly, much of special education is not justifiable;• If the socioeconomic status of parents influence your willingness to work with• their children, much of special education is not justifiable;• If where children travel and vacate during the summer raises your eyebrow and• playing in the streets devastates you, much of special education is not justifiable;• If traditional husband-wife families capture your attention and single-parent• families are a turn off, much of special education is not justifiable; or• If the 3Rs are the boundaries of your acceptance/curriculum and there is not room• for rap, saggy pants or braided hair, much of special education is not justifiable.

Minorities in Special Education• But, the magic:• If you can truly embrace all children, barring none;• If you can place the many appropriate instructional materials

before students;• If you can make your pedagogic strategies tailored to individuals’

learning styles;• If you can fill each minute of teaching with 60 seconds worth of

distance run;• And students are enabled to progress in the least restrictive

environment –• Then, for those who are determined eligible, much of special

education would be• justifiable.

Minorities in Special Education

• I think that this article is one that I am going to save for future reference. This article shows that there is a gap in special education and that not every student needs to be in the special education classroom. In the future I want to become a special education and knowing that there is a gap in the system makes me want to change the system.

Conclusion

• Some may have a hard time seeing my connection between the but my connection is that special education has many misinterpretations and behavior is a factor in determining in special education. These articles shows different sides of special education.
