EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Canada has approximately 5.4 million K–12 school students, enrolled

across the 10 provinces and three territories. More than 90% of the

students are enrolled in private schools, and the ratio of private to public

school enrollment is highest in case of British Columbia, Manitoba and

Quebec. 51% of the students are males, and remaining 49% females.

Enrollment of Ontario and Quebec collectively constitute more than 60%

of the total enrollment across Canada. Ontario and Quebec also

collectively constitute more than 50% of all the schools and more than 60%

of all the educators across Canada, while the territory of Nunavut has the

highest K–12 school enrollment, as a % of total population. British

Columbia, Ontario and Saskatchewan have the highest % of private

schools.

Average K–12 school age population, as a % of total population across

Canada is 14.5%. Five provinces and all the three territories exceed the

average, with the highest difference in case of Manitoba, Saskatchewan,

Northwest Territories, and Nunavut.
