Sarojini Naidu

● Born: 13 february 1879 in Hyderabad.

● The “ Nightingale of India”

● The first Indian woman to become the Governor of an Indian state.

Literary Career

● Sarojini Naidu began writin at the age of twelve.

● In 1905 her first collection of poems named “ The Golden Threshold” was published.

● Her collection of the poems entitled “ The feather of the Dawn”

Political career

● Naidu joined the indian national movement in the wake of partition of Bengal in 1905.

● During 1915-18 she travelled to different regions in India delivering lectures on social welfare, woman's empowerment and nationalism.

● In 1929 she was awarded the ' Kaisar-i-Hind' medal by British Goverment.

● She is writer, essayist and political activist.

● She is best known for her novel ' The God of small things' which won the 'Man Booker prize'
