The biggest festival of the Christians, Resurrection, is the occasion for all the people to live holy moments of joy.

Easter, as the Romanians call the feast of the Resurrection, has its etymology in the Hebrew word Pessah, that means passage. Jews Easter marks the passing of the chosen people through the Red Sea from the bondage of Egypt into the promised land, Canaan.

Christian Easter is the celebration of Jesus Resurrection.

The painted egg symbolizes the Savior, who is leaving the grave and returns to life, like the chicken which gets out of the eggshell.

The Romanian folklore preserve several Christian legends which explain why Easter eggs are painted in red. One says that Virgin Mary, who came crying to her crucified son, placed a basket of eggs near the cross and they were reddened by the blood that dripped from the wounds of Christ.
