The opening program of the 2016 BSP School-Based Camporal started at exactly 3 o’clock in the afternoon of the 30th of September 2016 with the selected Senior Scouts performing the Entrance of Colors and the selected Girls Scouts being the program hosts. It was a simultaneous opening program for the BSP and GSP since the SDS approved it.

After the opening program, the student scouts were grouped into six crews and asked to accomplish their first task, the flag making. The Crew Leaders were asked to pick one strip of paper containing their assigned crew name, this time the Zodiac Signs. The selected zodiac signs for the Crew Names were Capricorn Crew, Scorpio Crew, Aries Crew, Pisces Crew, Aquarius Crew, and Cancer Crew. After that they looked for a comfortable place where they could work as a group to accomplish the assigned task. After they finished it, they presented it to the stage. They were

also taught about the basic salutes and gestures while holding their flag. After that, the scouts marched towards the room of Grade 9-Mapitagan.

Series of orientations followed. They were as follows: a) History of Boys Scouts Movement, and b) Spirit Builders: Songs. For the History, selected scout facilitators discussed how the Boy Scout as a Movement started and when the Boy Scout Movement came about in the Philippines. After the discussions, there was a question and answer portion in which each crew got the chance to show their intelligence by answering correctly the questions. For the Spirit Builders: Songs, the scouts were taught about the common scout songs that they would sing throughout the course. The songs taught were as follows: Auld Lang Syne (Old Lang Sign for the Scout Vindication), Camp Fires Burning (Camp Fire Song), BSP Song, and Follow Me Boys. After that, each Crew was asked to sing the song the selected to the whole participants. When all the Crews finished their song number, they were told about their camp fire presentation thus, they had to prepare and then they were dismissed.

The participants had their practices for the Camp Fire presentations after they had their dinner. They’re doing the yells and cheers and role plays. The others were preparing their quarters.

“In the beginning…Let there be light and there was light.” This marked the opening of the campfire ceremony. It was facilitated by the selected senior scouts of CNHS. They portrayed a short ceremony for the fire. After the short portrayal, the Scout Master then said the Ode of the Fire which was also symbolic for the campfire. Then, the presentations started by a Boy Scout Crew then a Girl Scout Patrol alternately until all the groups had presented. The presentations of the Boy Scout Crews were depiction of their understanding regarding the Scout Ideals though cheers and yells and short role play. After all of the Crews were done presenting the scouts are instructed to proceed to their quarters and prepare to rest and the facilitators had their short briefing about the activities for the next day.

Day 2 – October 1, 2016The scouts gathered at 5:30 in the early morning for their WARM-UP Exercise

through Zumba Dance Presentations facilitated by the selected CNHS female teachers who are good in dancing. There were three song numbers presented. Every Crew showed their participation and cooperation. Every scout had his share of sweat!

After the warm-up activities, The Scouts did their next activity: The Breakfast Hunt. In this activity, each crew gave their breakfast to the facilitators a night before the activity. Then the faci’s hid them within the campus and all the members

in each crew should look for it or else they won’t eat anything for their breakfast. It was successful because everyone cooperated and they were able to cook their and eat their breakfast.

After the breakfast, the scouts were given time to prepare for the flag ceremony. They were instructed to wear their most decent BSP uniform and NO wearing of slippers. At 7:30 am, we started our flag ceremony with the selected Girl Scouts doing the Entrance of Colors. After the flag ceremony, the first awarding ceremony followed where the outstanding and commendable participations are recognized by giving colored ribbons. There were 1st, 2nd, and 3rd ribbons for their participations of the activities in the previous activities and there were also special awards ribbons for the intangible aspects of the scout participants as a group. There were Crews who collected many awards, and there were also who receive few. The ribbons have no monetary values nonetheless, these gave them pride and energy to participate for the next activities. To their level it was everything for them and proofs of their eagerness to engage in the activities. The awards(some not all) were Best in Participation, Best in Camp Fire Presentation, Golden Voice, Most Active, Most Polite, Most Disciplined, Most Organized, Most Prepared, Best in Zumba, Best In Breakfast Hunt, etc. They really enjoyed the awarding ceremony especially knowing the fact the GSP had no such thing as awarding. After the awarding they were given the time to change for the Spirit Builders: Games.

The Games started at 9:30 am, there were only four games played:

Game 1 – Catch the Dragon TailWinner – Scorpio Crew

Game 2 – Finding NemoWinner – Capricorn Crew

Game 3 – Crab WalkWinner – Cancer Crew

Game 4 – Best Wacky FaceWinner – Pisces Crew

After the games, we did the Base Method. The Bases were composed of Whistles and Hand Signals, Knot Tying, First Aide, Fire Making with a Twist, Trail Signs, and Flag Folding. The Base Method is a method used to orient the scouts about the different scouts skills that they need to learn where they move from one station to another. In this way, the orientation and training is personalized. When scouts finished all the stations and accomplished all the tasks, they could prepare for their lunch.

The scouts were instructed next that the final activity that they will undergo is the obstacles. So they prepare themselves. The obstacles started at 1:30 in the afternoon. There were five stations. Station 1 – Recite BSP Oath and Law in Unison with in a Pyramid FormationStation 2 – Ethnic Dance Using Indigenous Materials as InstrumentsStation 3 – Bamboo FlagStation 4 – Herbals Plants Station 5 – Blind Teamwork

Shortly after they finished the obstacles, they spent some time in the irrigation, cleaning their bodies and feeling the coldness of the water and had some time relaxing themselves from the two-day activity.

During the closing program, awarding of the remaining of the games and activities took place. Giving also of the certificates for the scout participants and the facilitators took place. After that, we formed a big circle around their bundled flags symbolizing unity. We altogether sang the closing song Auld Lang Syne and then a Scout Vindication by the Scout Master closed it.
