The concept of integrity as guiding framework to the preservation of time-based media art

The main goal of the Research Alliance DOCAM is to implement new tools and methodologies adapted to the Conservation and Documentation of artistic practises involving media technologies. During the five years tenure of this project, many case studies will address preservation issues of Time-based media art work as well as peculiarities of archival collection composed of technologically based information carrier materials.

Obsolescence : How to counteractvia the migration or the emulation process

• Assure best support quality for the work’s content (imply stability + information stockpilling capacity)

• Assure that related equipment has a possible sustained lifespan

Migration To migrate an artwork involves upgrading equipment and

source material.

Emulation To emulate a work is to devise a way of imitating the

original look of the piece by completely different means.
