• Comprehensively examine the process(es) responsible for the pattern(s).
Look at section 3 of the AS, entitled “Terms” - this defines what is meant by the words used in the Achievement Criteria.
Achieved - Describe
Identify and outline

Outline – to point out the parameters of something (define it)
Merit – Describe in detail
Describe – identify and outline as with Acheived
In detail – use supporting evidence (data, statistics, named people, places, case studies, graphs). You also need to be able to justify (give reasons) as to why and how these details back up your answer.

Apply geographic skills – explain in detail how your annontated maps, graphs, models, statistics back up your answer. Compare and contrast.
Apply geographic concepts – explain in detail how geographic concepts are shown and why they help explain your findings.
Apply supporting evidence – Supporting evidenced is NOT just stated, but explained and compared with other evidence.
