IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH, PLANNING AND

EVALUATION STAGES?

INTRODUCTIONDuring A2 media I have used a various amount of different technologies to help create the best possible coursework I can. I have used most of the media technologies In AS as well as A2 which is why in A2 I noticed that I was able to use them much more effectively. Therefore creating a music video, digipak and a website was easier because I have had experience in the media technologies in AS. Even though the media technologies I used benefited me a lot, it also provided me with some limitations such as a lack of privacy on my blog because people were easily able to click on my link for my blog and copy the information which I’ve researched to find out which is not fair.

AS– A2Real Quick

RESEARCHDuring this stage in my coursework the media technologies I used was: Weebly Google Wikipedia YouTube Survey Monkey

Weebly – Weebly was the main technology I used for because I chose to create a blog on Weebly. Weebly was new to me because in AS I used Blogger but I decided to switch to Weebly in A2 because Blogger was always having problem, messing up my work. Using Weebly this year made me realise that it is better than Blogger because it provides you with better templates and it allows you to be more create with the blog you create, I was able to easily adjust every to my needs easily. Everything is simplified so I was able to comfortably create a new blog anytime I want without no interruption with the server. Weebly allowed me to post any picture or video I want, it also allowed me to edit the pictures I post which Blogger did not allow me.

Google – Google was the main technology I used to do research and get images. Nearly all the pictures from my research are from google images because I use it all the time for images because it’s easy to use and it provides me with all the relevant images I look for. Therefore when I needed an image I knew I will be able to type what I want and it will display the various images of the same image which I need fast. Other search engines such as Bing are not as good as Google because they don’t always have the same image as Google and Bing is slower than google. The fact that I always use Google to get images, I use it to research things because I always have it open and when I research on google it provides all the links which are the most relevant to what I search.

Wikipedia – Wikipedia was the main technology I used for facts about artists, music labels, genre research, music channels and the development of music videos. I trusted Wikipedia, so I saw it as a reliable source with key facts which were very useful information that I included in my research on my blog. So Wikipedia has allowed me to gain a lot of facts about Grime therefore I was able to gather them all and write a new blog in my own words comfortably because the information I would gather on Wikipedia would give me background information which I was able to expand on.

YouTube – YouTube was the main technology where I used videos from because doing A2 media I have been set a task to create a music video so at the research stage I had to watch Music Videos and analyse them. I also has to research on YouTube for the music videos which inspired me and include them easily onto my blog by copy and pasting the embed code onto Weebly with a click of a button. For me YouTube was the best video site because it included the most Grime video because nearly all Grime artists upload their Music Videos onto YouTube because it is for free and it is the most popular video site.

Survey Monkey – Survey Monkey was the main technology which helped me gain information from our target audience about what they want to see. Creating a survey like this allowed us to adjust the video to our target audience, so they are able to receive the most entertainment possible from the video we create. Survey monkey was easy to use and easy to send out to people which is why I chose to use it. Survey Monkey allowed me to create multiple choice question which was beneficial because it is quicker to fill therefore we was able to receive a lot of feedback.

EFFECTIVENESS & LIMITATIONS Using all of those different technologies

has allowed me have a solid research so when it came to planning I had all the information I need on how to create a good Grime music video. If it weren’t for the technologies I used I would not have been able to gather a lot of information about the Grime genre as a whole, which was key research I gathered…

PLANNING During this stage in my coursework the media technologies I used was: YouTube Scribd Outlook Microsoft word Microsoft PowerPoint Camera Mobile phone

YouTube – YouTube was very vital for our group in the planning stage because it allowed us to upload vlog’s onto it for free and embed the video onto my blog comfortably. Every vlog which we created was uploaded onto our group member Berkay’s YouTube account because he had the computer which uploaded videos onto YouTube the fastest and due to this reason the whole of A2 I uploaded vlog’s onto his account. Therefore YouTube has benefitted me a lot during planning because I have also been able to upload the ‘lip sync’ videos onto there too, which is a part of my planning and in total I have posted 8 videos on planning which have all been embedded from YouTube.

Scribd – Scribd is a site which allows anyone to upload a PowerPoint presentation onto for free. This media technology allowed me to place my group pitch onto it’s site and then allow me to use the embedded code to upload it onto my planning blog without any hassle. It was quick and easy to upload videos to Scribd because it did not require me to create a login, I was given the option of uploading the video straight away without signing up so I did and it successfully uploaded onto the site. Also Scribd is good because the PowerPoint presentation was large and not small on my blog, allowing the viewer to comfortably read though the slides.

Outlook – Outlook email is the main media technology which is used by most people in London, my whole group have outlook accounts and artists use email to be contacted by other. So we used Outlook to email Grace which is Skepta’s manager, we emailed her to receive permission to use Skepta’s track for ‘It Aint Safe’ and she replied to us even though we thought she wouldn’t, saying ‘Sure’, meaning we were giving permission to use the track. So having a Outlook account benefited us because we were able to easily contact Grace without having to sign up to Outlook because signing up to Outlook is a very long process because it requires a lot of information.

Microsoft word – I used Microsoft Word to create a shot list, risk assessment and filming schedule. Therefore it has had a huge benefit for my planning section because those 3 were very key planning which we had to complete in order to create a successful music video. I used Microsoft Word and not another media technology to create these 3 blogs because it allows me to create tables very easily to what ever size I want it. All 3 blogs were tables and I created them very easily by just using the table tool on the insert toolbar and it allowed me to choose the number of boxes I wanted in the table and create it. So overall it provided me with 3 successful blogs. Also I use Microsoft to check spelling mistakes because when I type blogs on Weebly I rush and I make mistakes which I don’t notice because Weebly does not spot it out but once I’ve copy and pasted the paragraph onto Word it automatically checks it for me. Therefore, this way have a blog without any mistakes.

Microsoft PowerPoint – PowerPoint was a very useful media technology because I allowed me to create a presentation, which I could be as creative I want. I needed to create a presentation on PowerPoint because I had to create a group pitch for my music video with my group which was easy to create on PowerPoint and the good thing about PowerPoint is that it provides you with different background designs which makes the presentation look good. Also PowerPoint allows you paste any picture onto it and you can edit it too, to make it the right size of crop it. The disadvantage of PowerPoint is that it does not allow you to upload the presentation from PowerPoint itself, instead you are required to upload it to a presentation site such as the one I used, ‘Scribd’. So, PowerPoint would be better if it allowed us to post a onto Weebly presentation straight away.

Camera – This was a vital piece of media technology because we used it a lot during my planning stage. I had to use a camera to record the videos which needed to be on my blog of my vlogs and lip sync’s. The camera we used was Canon 750d which was quite high quality therefore our videos came out as good quality and we had no problem with uploading it to YouTube because all we had to do was plug in the SD card from the camera into the Apple Mac computers in school and transfer/upload the selected videos onto YouTube which you just sign into on a browser. So uploading a video from the cameras was easy but there was one problem which was the fact that big files took long to upload onto YouTube, making me wait for a long period of time.

Mobile phone – This piece of media technology allowed me to keep in contact with my group members to keep each other updated with the planning for our video because we came up with all the planning as a group using each others ideas to create each blog. On our mobile phone we was able to share images to each other on Wats-App which is a social networking app and we had created a group chat on it which involved all 4 of us in the chat. It was our melting point because we would all talk about what to do and what step to take next on the group chat so it certainly did help is lead to success with our music video and played a vital role in our planning stage.

CONSTRUCTION During this stage in my coursework the

media technologies I used was: Camera Photoshop Wix Sony Vegas Pro

Camera – A camera was a vital media technology which we used frequently throughout our construction stage because we were out recording our music video. The camera we used was the same one as the one we used during our planning stage (Canon 750D). Everyone in our group got to do some recording for our music video but I done the least because we chose to use me as the actor/artist. So I was the one being recorded but I recorded a few establishing shots which we used in our music video. At first I did not know how to use the camera very well but using it every week helped me learn how to use it effectively and take clear shots. The two group members which done most of the camera recording was Berkay and Sukru because they were the two that was the most familiar with the camera which we were using. So overall the camera was a very beneficial piece of media technology and it gave us the opportunity to produce the music video we dreamed of creating, which was a success.

Photoshop – Photoshop was the main media technology which we used to edit our Digipak. We used Photoshop because it allows you to create what ever you want, it also is simple to use once you become familiar with the tools which is how I got used to it, but Berkay done most of the Photoshop to the Digipak because that’s his expertise, meaning he was able to use it very well. We used a Digipak template to help guide us and so we get the exact measurements so that we don’t have on panel bigger than another. So by using Photoshop we was ableto finish creating our Digipak because it was quick and easy to use. Our Digipak turned out better than we expected so using Photoshop was a very beneficial choice has allowed us to succeed in making the Digipak we want.

WIX – WIX is the media technology which allowed us to create our site for free. It is a website allows people create a website for any purpose and we chose to use this website because we saw that other people have made very successful sites for their artist using this website, so we chose WIX. The main creator of our artist website was Dogus and Sukru but myself and Berkay helped too because we gave them all the ideas and they were able to follow us as a guide and take place the actions needed to get the website looking how I wanted it too look. I drew the draft for our website in the planning stage and the final draft of our website looks very similar to the first draft I drew. WIX gave us the freedom of being able to what ever we want with the site we was creating so we became creative and created website. So overall WIX was a success for us because we were able to create a high quality website for our artist for free.

Sony Vegas Pro – Sony Vegas Pro is the media technology which we used to edit our music video. We chose this programme to edit our music video instead of another programme because myself and my group member Berkay was very familiar with it because we have used it in the past. Berkay and I edited the video together using the programme we realised how useful this programme is because it was allowing us to what we want to the music video and we to on board the freedom we had in the making of this video edited the video like no other Grime music video. If we used another program such as final cut pro on the I-Macs in our school, our video would not have been as good because we were not as familiar with that programmer and they are very different to each other. So we have made a very beneficial choice by choosing to work with Sony Vegas Pro and our music video shows that we have seen success by using this programme.

EVALUATION During this stage in my coursework the

media technologies I used was: Emaze Prezi YouTube PowerPoint Scribd

Emaze – Emaze is the media technology which I have used to create a presentation on for my evaluation question 1. I used Emaze because it was something which people do not really use, it is a very creative presentation making website. It is nothing like PowerPoint, Emaze provides the viewer with a 3D presentation which is very creative. I have used this and not PowerPoint because I chose to use PowerPoint for the question 4 evaluation question. Using Emaze has allowed my blog to be full of creativity because I have decided to do each of my evaluation question with a different media and Emaze was the first one I used because I thought that it is the most amusing media because it is not a type of presentation people would see everyday. So using Emaze allowed my evaluation to look creative so I have successfully used this media technology.

Prezi – Prezi is the media technology which I have used to create a presentation for my question 2 on evaluation. Prezi suited the question I was answering because it allowed me to create a different type of presentation to Emaze and using Prezi I learned that it is more creative if you use your creativity to it’s full potential. Emaze was very creative because it turns your presentation 3D making it the viewer feel like they are in a gallery, but Prezi is different to this because it provides you with all the tools to create a presentation how ever you want, giving me a lot of freedom with my creativity. Out of Emaze and Prezi I have enjoyed using Prezi more because it kept me learning new thing as a was creating my presentation, but Emaze was similar to PowerPoint because it just provides you with a slide and you add what you want and when it is finished Emaze animates it to become a 3D gallery.
