LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

Dear editor,

I’m writing to congratulate you for the recognition the Education 2020 MAG gave to Public Wall last month. It was a great surprise when I found out about this, because I’ve always felt your work was being underrated in behalf of other publications. Once again, my sincerest congratulations on your “victory”!

Sincerely, Laura Avello.

Dear editor,

The cost of Education in our country is getting to extremely disgusting levels and our youth is rebelling against it. When is it going to change? What are we doing about it? I’m tired of being an spectator and see how these young people try to make a difference while the authorities won’t listen to them. This is not an Utopia, it’s time to wake up, people!

METHODOLOGY

Collaborative Teaching-Learning

5PUBLIC WALL / May 2012

Page 6: Public Wall magazine

Every teacher knows students learn better when they are really involved in the process, that’s why Sweden and Holland are implementing the collaborative teaching and learning since a few years ago as a way of making teachers and students learn from each other.

To create small groups of work in class has become a good tool for teachers in order to make the students retain what is taught longer that when the same content is just presented orally.

It can be as simple as asking a student to turn to a classmate beside him and spend two minutes discussing a question you have posed (informal learning group), or make students join in groups to complete a task, a lab experiment, to write a report, a project, etc (formal learning group).

Students of Swedish and Dutch from progressive schools are sharing information and collaborating with each other through social media, this also includes students networking sites such as blogs, schools sites and the massives, Facebook and Twitter.

It is well known by everybody that working in front of a computer is, apart from extremely exhausting, a very damaging activity to your body. We went to visit Dr. Zeuss and created a fascinating “5 steps to success” for you to try.

“5 steps to success” by Dr. Zeuss and Public Wall

STEP 1: Try to use some books and printed material to avoid getting blind by the computer screen, otherwise, you’ll end up looking like Mrs. McGonagall, the Art’s teacher.

STEP 2: Stop using online dictionaries! We know it’s tempting using “wordreference.com” but wouldn’t be much more romantic if we

8PUBLIC WALL / May 2012

use the old smelly dictionaries from the library?

STEP 3: DO NOT EAT IN FRONT OF YOUR COMPUTER. Is there anything more to say? Just take a look at the image above. It is unprofessional and disrespectful.

STEP 4: Take pauses. Every hour or so, go to the cafeteria to get a snack or have a chat with a colleague. It will help you concentrate and you’ll have some new ideas for your handouts.

STEP 5: Sit properly and mind your breathing. It might sound weird, but the way we breathe can make a difference when working for long hours in the same position.

And that’s it! Now you just have to put in practice and enjoy the results! Good luck!

If you really like music and you want to go further on this, FL Studio is the

computer software for you. It offers you an automatable workspace and an

advanced MIDI support, which includes things such as a sequencer, many

synthesizers, sample libraries, and drums. All of this let you create music

based on patterns using the Piano Roll view or the step sequencer. Here

you can export your work as an Mp3 or Wav file, and save it as a FLP file

(Fruity Loops Project).

This software was created mainly for electronic music, but nowadays it’s

related to Pop, Rock and Experimental music due to its easy management

and reliability.

Used by musicians like Little Brother, Beyonce, and Jay Z, FL Studio has

become one of the world’s most popular and exiting music production

systems created by Image-line company. Everything you need in one

package to compose, arrange, record, edit, mix and master professional

music.
