Muslin had the number one position during British reign.

• 2nd largest jute producer in the world. (1.08 m ton/year)

• Still has demand in the international market for higher quality fibers.

• Total earning is US$611 million/year.

• A number of silk industries & silk research centre.

• Approximately 10,00000 people are directly or indirectly employed in this sector.

TEXTILE SECTOR• First it was a part of ISI.

• First gvt. Organisation for controlling this sector was BTMC.

READY-MADE TEXTILES• Emerged during 1980.

• At present most growing part of textile sector.

• 80% of total export.

• 2nd largest exporter. (report 2011)

• Exports US$21.515 billion during 2012-13 session.

• Nearly 3.5 million people are involved.

• Works to promote & protect the interest of the textile industry.

• Recognizes fundamental rights of the workers.

RMG sector(The golden goose)

• Experienced exponential growth since 1980’s.

• More than 73% of total textile export.

• 13% of GDP.

• FDI records to invest $1136.38million in 2011.

• 89 new & joint venture projects.

TRADE & BUSINESS

• 81% of export earning.

• Contributes over 13% of GDP.

• Also helps supporting industries. (shipping, transport, banking, insurance.)

• 150 lakhs in supporting industries.

• 2lakhs in waste recycling industry.
