Genre conventionsOur idea will largely revolve around hybrid conventions (Steve Neale) as we agree with Steve Neale’s idea that “difference is absolutely essential to the economy of genre as constant repetition would not attract audiences”. We also want our video to stand out from others – which we can do through by using conventions of Skrillex’s dubstep genre and then adding small references to Justin Biebers pop background. We took inspiration from Disclourse’s White Noise video which begins with following a man’s morning and from Touch Route 66 where a couple meet.

Conform to how they have some elements of naturalism and some elements of escapism for watchers.

Style – Narrative/Performance

Out of Sven Carlsson’s theory’s we have decided to focus on Narrative following a chronological daily life of a male in a stereotypical boy meets girl story. However, we subvert from the stereotype because he won’t notice her until the end. Our thematic statement is that in the world there is a perfect person for everyone and in life you may not notice or you may end up with the wrong person this storyline was inspired by the lyrics of the song and the theory that connects the video and the lyrics of the song. Professional music videos that inspire us were Jsutin’s previous videos were mainly based on boy meeting girl yet as this is a song in a new genre we thought we’d put a twist on the concept.
