What is Poetry Inside Out ?Poetry Inside Out (PIO) is the language arts program of the Center for the Art of TranslationIt harnesses the power of classroom diversity and builds literacy skills by teaching students to translate great poetry from around the world.

Translation is the closest form of reading Students who participate in Poetry
Inside Out come to understand: Close reading heightens comprehension Precise writing enhances communication The mechanics of language Attentive listening builds new knowledge Critical thinking

Poetry Inside Out generates a dynamic and collaborative learning environment by mining the cultural and linguistic assets that students bring with them to school every day.
Everyone gets smarterPoetry Inside Out is built around activities
that require and cultivate dialog, and a careful consideration of meaning.
Poetry Inside Out is implemented by 5th-12th grade teachers who have attended an 8 hour workshop that introduces them to the curriculum and its proper implementation, specifically: Basic Practices – Core practices that define the
scope of the program Basic Principles – Core principles that are necessary
to maximize learning within the curriculum Program Materials and Resources Design and Implementation
