Goal:• Make a start on your close reading of film essay

1) Go to www.jograyenglish.wikispaces.com

3) Download and save yourself a copy of our completed V for Vendetta and The Matrix notes.

•This is a list of aspects you can focus on in your close reading essay. •YOU NEED TO FOCUS ON THREE.

3) Continued… IMPORTANT IMPORTANT…• The THREE aspects you choose to focus on should be three which all

have the same purpose:

• e.g. your three dystopian genre features all have the purpose to show who has power and who has none in dystopian worlds.

• What the aspects have in common will become the thesis of your essay.

3) Continued some more• What are some other possible purposes you cold focus on for your

essay thesis?• Put an end to the thesis: “films of the dystopian genre use aspects

(techniques, characters…) with the purpose to…• It is ok if you don’t want to commit to a purpose or thesis now BUT

pick three aspects that have something in common (like control, power, dominance, corruption, injustice, enlightenment, integrity, rebellion, defiance…)

4) Download, enable editing and save as the “essay planning chart”. • This is the minimum of what you need to complete today: THE V FOR

VENDETTA SIDE.

• I have done an example for you that you can download and look at (thanks Ms Gray)

5) After that you could download, enable editing, save as and make a start on your essay (The V for Vendetta part). • Leave the introduction until last as it will introduce both V for

Vendetta and The Matrix.
