Patient Information

Following Prostate Cancer Surgery

BAD NEWS - Up to 70% of men experience some

temporary loss of normal sexual function following prostate cancer surgery.

GOOD NEWS - Most men who experience some temporary loss of normal sexual function will see a return of erectile function (typically 3 to 24 months).

RECOVERY - How fast and how well you will recover typically depends on three things:

1) Quality of erections before surgery.2) How well your doctor spared your nerves and

minimizing trauma during the procedure.3) The steps YOU take during your recovery period.

Often vascular interruption along with mild trauma to the nerves and blood vessels that are necessary to create an erection can be damaged during prostate cancer surgery procedure.

As a result many men are unable to have night-time erections and spontaneous (or natural) erections for 3 to 24 months.

It’s common for men who undergo prostate cancer surgery to experience a loss of penile length averaging 1-2 cm after the surgery.

Penile ShrinkageFollowing Prostate Cancer Surgery

Intimacy and Wellness Center 1800 Howell Mill Road, Piedmont West, Suite 750R, Atlanta, GA 30318 (404) 425-7928

The shortening is due to a combination of factors, including atrophy (muscle shrinkage) likely caused by the reduction or loss of night-time erections that help to maintain penile health.

1. The Role of Daily EDOX

Erectile Dysfunction Therapy EDOX Following Prostate Cancer Surgery

.

EDOX is a natural patented supplement containing;• L-Arginine • Citrulline • Pycnogenol

EDOX helps improve and support the function of blood vessel cells by improving the ability of cells in the blood vessel lining (called endothelial cells) to produce Nitric Oxide. Nitric Oxide relaxes the tissue, and blood is allowed to rapidly flow into the penis to form an erection.

These important nutrients help protect, restore, and sustain endothelial and smooth muscle tissue, increase nitric oxide levels and improve vascular integrity and blood flow in the genital region.

2. The Role Daily VED Therapy

Erectile Dysfunction Therapy VED Following Prostate Cancer Surgery

Daily VED® Therapy involves using the VED system (without constriction) to draw blood into the penis to stretch the tissue and smooth muscles in an effort to help maintain length and width.

Vacuum erection devices (VED) creates vacuum, which draws blood into the penis, engorging and expanding penile tissue.

Therapy Goal: Create and maintain multiple erections within a 10 minute period. Each erection will be held for one minute. NOTE: Do not use a constriction ring for daily VED® Therapy.

Three Simple Steps:

STEP 1 Use the VED® to create as much of an erection as comfortable.

STEP 2 Maintain the erection for 1 minute. After the minute is up, release the vacuum. Thiswill cause the blood to flow out of the penis and back into your body.

STEP 3 Repeat steps 1 and 2 until you have achieved a total of 5-7 erections. Continue untilyou experience regular night-time erections or spontaneous daytime erections or consult your physician for more specific instructions on a stopping point.
