Some information about himJos Francisco de San Martn y Matorras
was anArgentinegeneral. He was born inYapey, Corrientes, on the 25
February 1778.In 1783 his family decided to moved to Spain.Jos had
five brothers. He was the little brother.He studied the military
career in Spain.He has married with Maria de los Remedios de
Escalada, they had a daughter called Mercedes Tomasa San Martn y
Escalada.Jos de San Martn died on 17 August 1850, in his house
atBoulogne-sur-Mer France.
What did as military?At the age of 34, having has reached the
rank of liutenant colonel, he decided to return to Buenos Aires.
There he created the Horse Grenadiers Regiment and which triumphed
in the battle of San Lorenzo.Then in 1816 he achived the
independence of Argentina, later in 1818 he won the battle of Maipu
and that frees Chile. Finally in 1821 the General Jos de San Martn
achieved the independence of Per.To worsen the health of his wife
he decided to return to Buenos Aires but when he arrived, his wife
had already died. After that he moved to France with her daughter
where he eventually dies.
Why we considered a hero?
We considered him a heroe, because he had liberated argentina,
and we are what we are thanks to their bravery. Jos had showed that
one person can make big changes for the future of others. Actually
we celebrated the day on his honor, he have dedicated a song, many
sights, even here, in Nueve de Julio, is an avenue carrying his
name.
