• In garrison, the guidon may be

displayed at company headquarters.

• The guidon bearer is considered under

arms and does not carry

a weapon.

• The guidon is brought to

Present Guidon, Parade

Rest, and Order Guidon

with the company.

• When at route step or at ease march,

the guidon may be carried in either

hand.

• At Order Guidon, the

guidon is brought to

carry on the preparatory

command for any facing

or marching movement.

The guidon staff should be marked with

two thumbtacks.

The two grips of the guidon are identified

as:

“V” Grip Strong Grip

The “V” grip is used at

Order Guidon, Present

Guidon, and Eyes Right

(Left).

The strong grip is used for

marching and facing

movements.

• On the preparatory

command, bring the

staff across body with

spearhead to the left.

• The right hand grasps

the same spot as at

carry.

• The right forearm is

level with deck, and

the elbow is against the body.

• Grip the staff with left

hand in front of point

where neck and left

shoulder join.

• The flat side of the

spearhead faces

front.

Order Guidon from

Carry Guidon

This two-count movement is executed

without command at the completion of

any movement that required the guidon

bearer to come to carry guidon.

If there are a series of movements,

executed immediately one after the

other, order guidon will not be

executed until after the final one.

During NJROTC drill competition, the

guide will execute order guidon after

each movement.

Order guidon is executed in two counts

as shown on the next screen.

Count 1: Allowing the

staff to slip through the

right hand until the lower

ferrule rests on the deck

Count 2: Changing the

grasp to the “V” grip

The left hand does not

assist this movement.

Present Guidon

• Executed without command

upon halting at officers

center during a parade.

• Executed in one count as in

normal Present Guidon.

• Executed on fourth count after

“Officers, HALT.”

are not armed with swords.

• On preparatory command,

grasp staff with left hand.

• On command of execution,

bring staff back to Carry
