Student’s Body
THE CONSTITUTION
PREAMBLE We, the Students of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar National Institute of Technology
Jalandhar solemnly resolve to constitute our student body into a self-governing,
democratic collective. For the purpose of: • Nurturing a corporate life based on equality, liberty, professionalism
and sound moral judgment; • Developing all-round co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to
supplement education; • Representing and advocating the needs of our fellow students for their
general welfare; and at the same time honouring the vision of this institute and its
governing system. On this day of ____________ ; We establish this constitution, keeping in
mind simplicity and efficiency, and vow to sustain it.

Student’s Senate(Introduction & Working)
• Shall be the Central Representative,Legislative and Supervisory body of the students
• Consult the students• Act as a feedback system• Act as the central policy making body• Guide and check the functioning of the
executive wings
Student’s Senate(Introduction & Working)
• Shall not interfere in matters of minor importance in order that the free functioning of the executive wings within the general policy framework defined by the Senate is not affected (clause 2.02)
• In matters of general interest of the students, the executive councils/committees shall be subordinate to the Student’s Senate, and there Student’s Senate shall be subordinate to the Student’s Forum which by itself is subordinate to the Director(clause 2.14-a)
CHAPTER IIIELECTIONS
Student’s Senate will be comprising of following:-
Members to be elected through elections or otherwise as given in following slides:1. Under-Graduate Senators(36)2. Post-Graduate Senators(12)3. General Secretary Cultural Council(1)4. General Secretary Science & Technology Council(1)5. General Secretary Games & Sports Council(1)6. General Secretary SPICC(1) Members to be elected from within the Student’s Senate:7. President8. Vice-President9. Convener(not to be confused with convener of fests)10. Parliamentarian
(Total : 40+ Students )
1. Under-Graduate Senators(36)• Elected from each year & every department
through elections in respective classes• Elections for current 1st and 2nd year senators
will be held during the last week of August in respective departments
• Elections for oncoming 3rd and 4th year senators will be held in mid of April
2. Post Graduate Senator(…)• One PG Senator from each
department • Shall be elected through elections
3. The General Secretaries(Executive Members) (4)
• General Secretary Cultural• General Secretary Science & Technology• General Secretary Games • General Secretary SPICC Elected by the respective wings through their
own active procedures
The President • Will be an executive member• Will be a final year nominee from the
Student’s Senate• Will be elected by the Student’s Forum • Nominees for the post of President cannot
contest elections for the post of Vice President
The Vice-President• Will be a final year nominee from Student’s
Senate• Selected through an election within the Senate• A Vice presidential nominee cannot contest
election for the post of President
The Convener and the Parliamentarian• Will be elected from among the non-executive
members of the Senate• Through an interactive process followed by
successive intra-senate voting where in candidate with least number of votes get eliminated until
a) Either a candidate gets more than 50 percent votes of those present and voting and is declared elected: or
b) All, but one candidate, who shall be declared elected, gets eliminated
NOTE:• A Student who has been placed on Academic
Probation or warning shall not be allowed to stand for any elected post
• In case, no senior girl Senator (except first year) is elected, the Girls’ Hostel Secretary will be included as member in the Senate
CHAPTER IV STANDING COMMITTEES OF THE STUDENT’S
SENATE

[SHAC] 6. The Student’s Academic Affairs Committee

1. The Finance Committee
Body:• 3 members - The President, Convener and
Treasurer • The Chief Counsellor shall be the faculty member
of this Committee Aim and Functioning:• It shall be responsible for supervising the running
expenditures and finances of the Student Senate.• A grant of INR1000/- shall be sanctioned by
the college to this committee.
2. The Steering Committee
Body:• The Convener of the Senate, who shall be its ex-officio
Convener and In-charge, and• 9 members (3 from each 1st, 2nd and 3rd Yr.) selected by
the convener and ratified by the Student’s Senate Aim and Functioning:• Shall coordinate and assist the Convener in steering
Senate session’s meetings.• Shall be responsible for publishing minutes of the Senate
sessions/meetings.• Shall also provide any assistance required by The Chief
Counsellor.
3. The Rules and Procedures Committee
Body:• Shall consist of the Parliamentarian, who shall be
the ex-officio convenor and In-charge of the Committee, and
• Two senators selected by him and ratified by the Senate
Aim and Functioning:• Shall be responsible for interpreting and updating
the Student’s Council Constitution and Rules and Procedures of the Senate as and when required
4. The Nominations Committee [NC]
Body:• Shall consist of the President, the Convener, and General
Secretary of all wings (6 ).• The President shall be the ex-officio convener of the NC Aim and Functioning:• Shall nominate Student’s representatives to the various
institute bodies. It can call for an explanation, in case the nominee (s) is (are) not found suitable for the assigned task. All its nominations/actions are to be ratified by the Senate.
• Selection of members of Sub-committees and Ad hoc –committees
5. Student’s Hostel Affairs Committee [SHAC]
Body:• Consist of Student Hostel Secretaries [SHS] selected by the warden
from each hostel.• 2 representatives of the Senate which will be selected by the NC.• In charge (Hostel Affairs) shall be elected by SHSs from amongst
them and shall be the ex-officio convener of SHAC.• The President and the Convener of Senate shall be the ex-officio
members of the committee Aim and Functioning:• Shall supervise and coordinate matters of common interest to all
hostels.• Shall endeavor to devise ways to develop all hostels and improve
the general living in all hostels
6. The Student’s Academic Affairs Committee [SAAC]
Body:• Shall consist of final year DAAC members from all the departments.• In-charge (SAAC) shall be elected by the members from the nominees
amongst them and shall be the ex-officio convener of the committee• 2 representatives of the Senate which will be selected by the NC• The President and the Convener of Senate shall be the ex-officio
members of the committee Aim and Functioning:• The SAAC shall advise and assist the Senate in all matters concerning
the Undergraduate academic program• Shall endeavor to devise ways to develop and improve the general
academic practices and shall coordinate with the Dean (Academics) for the same
7. Committee for Campus Amenities
Body:• Consist of one 4th year Senator who shall be its In-charge and
convener• 9 members (3 from each 1st, 2nd and 3rd Yr.) selected by him
and ratified by the Student’s Senate.• The President and the Convener of Senate shall be the ex-
officio members of the committee Aim and Functioning:• Shall advise and assist the Senate in all matters concerning
the facilities and amenities for the students in the campus.• Shall endeavor to devise ways to develop and improve it and
work with the state office for the same

The Games Council

by the council itself b) The captains and vice captains will be selected
from their respective teams
The Students’ Placement & Industrial Collaboration Council(SPICC)
• Placement Representatives(PRs) of all branches 3rd & 4th yr
• Head elected from themselves (36)• The President and the Convener of Senate
shall be the ex-officio members of the Council• ELECTION: The General Secretary and Joint
Secretary will be elected by the council itself
Note:-
Beside the assigned duties every council and its subordinate clubs/committees have to submit a monthly report which should include but not restricted to all its major activities including their events, expenditure, initiatives, bottlenecks, teams sent to various colleges/conferences and achievements
