INTRODUCTION

The English Language has always been regarded as the challenging subject

despite an increase in the percentage of passes in the 2008 UPSR examination. After

years of teaching and learning, pupils are still lacking in the listening, speaking, reading

and writing skills especially those in the rural schools, thus resulting in the low

achievement of pupils.

As their participation in the UPSR examination plays a vital role in determining

the percentage of passes, they should not be overlooked. With that in mind, the Perak

Tengah English Department has initiated another special programme that caters mainly

for the low achievers. The District English Panel hopes that this module will be a great

benefit to the low achievers in Perak Tengah district.

RATIONALE

To motivate and help pupils have a better command of the English Language in a

systematic teaching and learning programme which includes a variety of activities and

strategies.

AIMS

1. To enable the pupils to improve their proficiency in listening, speaking, reading

and writing skills.

2. To assist teachers in helping to improve pupils‟ achievement levels.

Page 11: Modul sinar

English Module

Modul Sinar UPSR 2009 11

OBJECTIVES

1. To create a conducive and supportive environment where pupils will be

comfortable with the language.

2. To motivate pupils and instil in them an interest in learning and using the

language.

3. To develop pupils‟ language skills.

4. To provide a range of strategies and techniques for effective teaching and

learning of English.

5. To increase the percentage of passes in the UPSR examination.

Dear Munis,

How are you? I hope you are fine and happy with your family. How was your school holidays? During the holidays, I spent my time reading at the Public Library. I read many books but the one that interests me the most is about Sybil Kathigesu. She was a brave and courageous woman. She was born in Penang on 3rd September 1899. When the Japanese came to Malaya, she treated the wounded soldiers secretly. Unfortunately, she was caught by the Japanese. They put her in prison and tortured her. She never gave up fighting against the Japanese. Because of her bravery, she was awarded the George Medal by King George VI of England. Alright, I have to stop now. Hope you will write to me and tell me how you spent your last school holidays.

Goodbye for now.

She is one of my favourite people and I love her very much. But I never tell her that. My

Every time, when there is a slimming product on television, she would ask our father to

buy it for her.

My father never buys the product. But he always likes to tease her about her

chocolates. He says that she could easily slim down by eating less chocolates and

exercising regularly.

Well, hope to hear from you again. Do tell me about a person that you like very
