IntroductionMICROSOFT EXCEL IS THE MOST POPULAR SOFTWARE FOR MATHEMATICAL CALCULATIONS. IT PROVIDES FACILITIES TO SPREAD DATA IN A TABULAR FORM CONSISTING OF ROW AND COLUMNS. THIS WAY DATA CAN BE ORGANIZED EASILY. SPREAD SHEET IS ALSO CALLED WORKSHEET.

EXCEL PROVIDES FACILITIES TO ANALYZE AND ASSESS THE CHANGES IN INPUT. IT HAS ADDED FEATURE TO REPRESENT DATA IN A CHART FORM, IT IS DEED AN EFFICIENT WAY TO ANALYZE AND UNDERSTAND DATA IN A PICTORIAL MANNER.

To create a new workbook, click new slide button on the standard

toolbar or select office button. Office button

FORMATTING NUMBERS By default, values are displayed as general numbers. You

can use number formats to change the appearance of numbers, including data and time. Values can be displayed as currency, percentage, fraction, dates etc. commonly used numbers formats are as follows:

Currency- It will display the currency along with a number applying two decimal places

Format Examples

Currency $12,$2000,100Kr

Percentage 100%,120.25%,25%

Commas 1,000.00 etc.

Percentage- It used for representThe number as percentage.

Commas- Commas are displayedIn between numbers so that the di-gits can be easily understood. It automatically applies two decimal point.

SETTING CELL ALIGNMENT

Alignment refers to the positioning of characters within the cell. We know that text is always left aligned and numbers are right aligned.

Center the heading Text can be placed in the center – across a group of

columns to create attractive headings.

Type any text.Click on Merge and Center button present on the

format toolbar.

FREEZING SPREADSHEET TITLESPlace the mouse pointer below the fields to be frozen. Window > freeze planes

Similarly you can make a vertical freeze line that freezes one or more columns.

The column width to fit all entries on the heading.

Excel automatically adjusts the column width to fit all entries in a column.

Excel default, column width of cell is 8.43.
