Logos

All film trailers include logos to show the studios or who the producers are. They use logos purposely so we develop a familiarity with the studio or producers so audiences may relate specific studios/producers to making a certain type of genre e.g. Disney is aimed at a family audience.

However studios and producers edit logos to suit certain films and increase its publicity. Pixar uses this technique by using their original logo, but adding new characters etc to create a hype about new, upcoming films.

Studios and producers are usually personally related to specific genre of films. Therefore they use a regular colour scheme, sound effects and the general layout of the logo to relate to a specific genre as well as have continuity in order for audiences to become familiar with their studio. For example Dream Works use melodic music, suggesting their peaceful, harmony related genres of films.

Professional Logos

Univeral Pictures are one of the most recognized studios and are considered to be in the top 6 major studios. There logo is a ‘trademark’ and is easily recognized by all ages as they produce many genres, therefore suiting a wide audience, which is suggested through their logo of the world, signifying dominance and power.

Dream Works Disney

Dream Works also vary their logo for new releases such as Shrek etc.

Like Dream Works, Disney is known to change its logo more depending on the film, yet it still keeps the symbolic features such as the ‘castle’.

Pixar Animation Studios

Pixar is owned by Disney and it shares similar qualities in the unique aspects to their logos for certain films. As well as producing a symbolic logo, they have also created unique edited versions of the original logo for new films such as ‘Up’ and ‘Walle’.

Warner BrothersWarner Brothers are another studio considered to be in the major top 6 studios. With their high popularity in varied genres of films from Harry Potter too creating their own iconic cartoon characters ‘Bugs Bunny’ and ‘Daffy Duck’.

Warner Brothers also use the same technique as Pixar, for the increasingly popular Harry Potter films. They change their original, symbolic logo, to a darkened, mysterious logo to suit the genre of the film and purposely attract more publicity.

Using Photoshop Using Photoshop will benefit me in designing my logos at a professional level, like

other professional logos used by producers and studios, I have taken into account that they sometimes edit their original, symbolic logo to suit the publicity needs of new films or the genre of a new film.

I am going to demonstrate this technique when I begin the production of my own logos as I want them both to suit the genre of my trailer. My trailer is going to be based around a grim and dark story line, therefore it’s a necessity that my logos have a dark, unearthly impression which I will express through the design of the logos, the sound effects used when they play and the animation of each logo.

Tutorials I started some tasks on Final Cut Pro where I explored how to animate. We learnt

how to change the opacity, movement, rotation and resizing, moving and distorting. The tasks have benefitted my knowledge of Final Cut Pro and will benefit me when I begin to animate my own logos as I am now aware of some techniques I can apply to suit the genre of my trailer.

By changing the opacity rapidly and quickly I can create the jittery, distorted effect

I want for my logo. I am also considering using strobe to one of my logos to achieve a jittery effect. Completing the tutorials has given me an idea about the effects I can apply to my own logo so they suit the genre of my trailer, as I want my logos to seem ‘edgy’ and ‘distorted’.
