In what way does your media product use, develop, or challenge forms and

conventions of real media products?

By Omari Gillings

Content of typical thrillers:

• Low key lighting

• Quick cuts

• Tense music

• Changes in the angle of shots

• Diegetic/non- diegetic sounds of breathing

• Montage of shots

• Protagonists is in the mercy of antagonist

How we have used typical conventions?

• We have used the conventions of a thriller in a useful way that will leave the audience wanting to watch the rest of he thriller.

• We had used examples of different films for example SAW, Blair witch project as we had thought that they had good camera angles and storyline that we could use and change into our own thriller opening sequence.

Examples: close up

• Low Key Lighting

POV

How is our thriller different to a typical thriller?

• Our thriller opening sequence does not challenge typical conventions in an obvious way but we do try to change stereotypes as we have no females in the opening and the main character is male. The use of narrative enigma at the end to leave the audience wondering who the person was on the phone at the end of the thrillers. Since we only changed who the protagonist was, I believe the thriller opening sticks to the typical conventions since the protagonist was the only part that was changed.
