My digipak uses conventions of real media products due to the clarity and directness of the digipak. Things like the bar-code, legal jargon and catalogue number on spine were inserted for authenticity. The use of image and repetition to create a pragmatic and realistic product. My inspiration for the front cover came from the following digipak covers, colours and patterns. The inspiration of my digipak came from Sonny Rollins album and we can see that they use silhouettes of the members of the band, this technique creates a simple yet stylish front cover which catches the eyes of the consumer.I was then influenced by this unique design and wanted to implicate this is my own design.I then researched into different images which have used a silhouette design, and i couldn't find a image that stood out to me.Then whilst watching TV i stumbled across a Schwarzkopf shampoo advert where there brand logo is a head silhouette and then this sparked my idea of using this.I "borrowed" this idea and placed the image in the centre of the front cover and left it as it was, no album name or artist. I decided this was an effective technique of creating a brand image something people can relate my product to, this i feel is am/xx/in colour esque style and yet they have iconic images, which consumers can relate to X/wiggled sound bars/colour wheel. My inside left is where my booklet will be placed, i decided that i wanted to insert some form of colour to my digipak and thought there would be a nice level of contrast

decided that i wanted to insert some form of colour to my digipak and thought there would be a nice level of contrast between the simplistic front cover and this page.I got the idea from Talking Heads and Split Ends Pajama Club. Replicating the same image creates continuity throughout my digipak, another valued attribute of an authentic media product. I decided to go for softer shades of colours instead of block colours as i believe that block colours are too in your face and a eyesore, we can see examples of jamie xx girl / sleepsound cover which depicts this softer ambiance fantastically.

My poster uses conventions of real media products due to the repetition, directness and visuals of the poster. Things like the information, rating and website page at the bottom

of the poster were inserted for authenticity. The use of word repetition was used to create an eye-catching and realistic product. My inspiration for the poster came from the following digipak covers, colours and patterns. 

The inspiration for the repetition in the poster came from “all work no play makes jack dull boy” I wanted to replicate some form of repetition into my digipak and I felt that one way I could do this is through repeating headspace consistently for aesthetics and for the practical reason of getting the bands name out there, brand awareness. I found

I do feel as my digipak does follow conventions of real media products I have convential features within my digipak such as all the legal jargons and the clarity of mydigipak, its very clear on what the entire theme of digipak is and what it represents; clear, informative, simplistic

this scene from the shining and they used a typewriter to get the font. I then searched for a font, which was similar to the typewriter style, which has been used. This also complements the colour of the poster very well because of the soft yellow the page looks like typewriter paper, this style creates a more authentic and vintage which fits in with target audience who like music from the 80’s/90’s e.g. The Smiths/Oasis/Stone roses etc.i feel this has been effective in drawing the audience in using repetition, its eye-catching and it uses conventions from media related products, so it does fit the criteria.The main attraction of the digipak is the eye-catching head that has been used in the centre of the page, I have incorporated more repetition into this as I feel this continuity will make the poster seem more authentic and carry on the themes of the poster. I got the inspiration for replication of the head silhouettes from Tame Impala – Feels like we only go backwards. In there videos they use this head shape and use different patterns and images within the heads throughout the video and they get smaller and smaller, the heads begin moving within the inside of the borders of the next heads. I feel these visuals were intriguing and eye-catching.

I decided to follow my digipak I was going to keep this very simplistic and not incorporate colour within the heads, I felt that colour within the poster would make the poster seem messy and look out of place. Then my head I decided to have a black head, I thought that it would make the heads seem like they are falling down into the page.

Incorporating all these elements into my poster I then created a poster that follow convention of real media products. I’m happy with the product I have created I have followed these convention and created a product which Is worthy to compete with other real products.

The music video that we produced would be classed in the category of Disjuncture. This is part of a theory which was created by Andrew Goodwin and he picked out key features what make a music video and put them into categories. Disjuncture is where the video completely ignores the meaning of the song and this is what are music video does as it is a straight performance video and there is no link in the video to any of the lyrics. This is done a lot in the genre of are song as 'indie' bands do a lot of performance videos to maintain the style of a band. According to Sven E Carlson’s Theory are music video is a 'performance clip'. A 'performance clip' is defined as a video which contains the vocalist in one or more settings. There are three types of performance clip, dance, song and instrumental. We decided that we were going to use song and instrumental performance in my video. When doing research into the genre that our band will represent; we found bands such as; the 1975 – Girls, Catfish and the Bottlemen – Kathleen, Peace – Perfect Skin. These bands all follow similar conventions of the instrumental performance theory. We also wanted to follow the conventions of an indie/rock boy bands clothing style.

In John Stewart’s theory, he states ' The music video has the aesthetics of a TV commercial, with lots of close-ups and lighting being used to focus on the star’s face'. And I believe we follow this theory as we have a lot of the music videos focus is on the lead singer (Ben Mckayy) and we also have ensured that the shots of the star man are close ups.

As you can see we have used reflected techniques that Van McCann from Catfish and the Bottlemen and our lead singer has copied these techniques. Van McCann stage presence is very powerful as he is very passionate when he sings, and I believe that he would fall into John Stewards Theory – he is the star man of the band, there are always close up shots of him and he creates a presence on stage/camera. I feel we have successfully done this with our video, and followed the conventions of a camera shots, framing and techniques.

We wanted to frame and position ourselves in a similar way as The 1975 did in their music video “Girls”, I believe that this video was a good benchmark to set ourselves, so we decided to set ourselves within a white studio, I believe this was the best environment that we filmed our video in, and I believe it follow the conventions of an indie/rock boy band performance video. We decided to frame our shots and positioned ourselves like the 1975 have done, I believe that this will create an authentic product, I feel as if the framings of the shot is very aesthetically pleasing with the two guitarists either side of the lead singer with the drummer in the background to the right. We also realised that because of the white studio we were in, the viewer would not be able to recognise where the room essentially ends and finishes, counter-acting this we decided to used so guitar amplifiers to create a wall to work with. Something that The 1975 managed to achieve.

For our bands clothing and style we decided to follow conventions of the indie/rock genre clothing, we decided that we were all going to wear dark colours so we could stand out against the white studios, this is what The 1975 did and this was effective in standing out, with the black and white effect which I feel creates an aesthetically pleasing product
