Mary Reiby was born in England in 1777.

Original occupation

Mary arrived in 1792 and was assigned as a nursemaid in the household of Major Francis Grose.

Family background

Mary Reiby divorced and she raised 7 children, three were males and the four other were females. Mary was a business woman and trader, her parents were dead and she lived with her grandmother. After on September the 7 in 1794 she married in Sydney to a young Irishman.

Crime

Mary ran away, and was arrested for horse stealing in August 1791. She was sentenced to seven year’s transportation, she arrived in New South Wales on the Royal Admiral in October 1792.

Sentence

At the age of 13 she was arrested and convicted of horse stealing. She was transported to the colony of New South Wales as a convict to serve out her sentence in 1791.
