FORT DRUM NEW YORK NURSE ADVICE LINE

• The Nurse Advice Line will provide 24 hour a day/7 day a week nurse

triage, advice and MTF appointing. The NAL goals are to reduce

unnecessary Emergency Department and Urgent Care utilization, to

improve the patient’s continuous healthcare relationship with his/her

MTF and PCM and to maximize patient satisfaction.

• Who Is Eligible to Use the NAL: All TRICARE beneficiaries including

TRICARE Prime to MTF, TRICARE Prime to Network, TRICARE

Standard, TRICARE Young Adult, TRICARE Prime Remote, TRICARE

Reserve Select, TRICARE Retired Reserve and any other specialty

categories of patient who are in DEERS as TRICARE Eligible.

• Who Is NOT Eligible to Use the NAL: Patients with non MTF privileges

are not eligible to use the NAL. (i.e. Martin’s Point Patients)

FORT DRUM NEW YORK NURSE ADVICE LINE, CONT.

• Expected Start Date: Expected on or about 24 April 2014

• Enrollees calling the NAL will gain immediate access to advice from

registered nurses 24 hours a day/7 days a week using standard triage

protocols

• NAL RNs will advise enrollees on the most clinically appropriate level of

care ranging from emergency to self-care.

• NAL will provide parent/care-giver the option of a follow-up call if self-

care is advised for any pediatric patients.

– NAL will send info to PCM via Telephone Consult. The PCM will

complete authorization form per normal procedures and send to

Tricare.

- Specific Procedures During Regular Duty Hours

• If the NAL determines the patient needs an acute appointment, the NAL

will attempt to make an ACUTE appointment, if available.

• If an appointment is not available, the NAL will attempt a “warm hand-

off” to the PCM nurse.

- Specific Procedures After Regular Duty Hours

• If the NAL determines the patient needs an acute appointment, the NAL

will attempt to make an ACUTE appointment, if available.

• If an appointment is not available, the NAL will advise the patient to seek

urgent care in the network. The NAL will notify the PCM via Telephone

Consult; the PCM will complete and submit a retroactive urgent care

referral.

SYSTEM (VMIS)

• Per Army Regulation 608-1 (12 March 2013)

• Volunteer Management Information System (VMIS).

• Statutory Volunteers are required to log their hours in VMIS

– Health care related programs

– Museums, Natural Resources

– Family Support, child/youth services, education, religious activities, MWR

• Private Organizations and Off-Post Volunteers (NON-AVCC) are

highly encouraged to log hours.

• Anyone nominated for Volunteer of the Year must have hours

logged into VMIS.

OF THE MOUNTAIN 1 May 2014, 1700-2000 at The Commons

- Ceremony will begin at 1800

• Invitations will be mailed on 10 March to each

nominee who may bring one guest. Nominees

need to RSVP NLT 27 March.

• Dress is business casual.

• Tables will be clearly assigned to each unit/organization.

During National Volunteer Appreciation Week 6-12 April

• AVC is planning surprise events during this week. We will need volunteers

for these surprise events.

• Allocation of funds to each BCT for their own volunteer appreciation.
