Citation preview
Diversity is: • Different. • More than race. • What’s within you, what makes you different than the person
next to you. • Examples: only child, disabled, hobbies

FIERCE
Fierce is not a word you would use to describe every celebrity.
What else makes Beyoncé different? Beyoncé is:
• A strong female role model • Private for a celebrity of her status • AppreciaSve of what she does, but she never
planned on being a child star or celebrity.
Think about what makes you different.
Embrace your differences. The best thing you can do is capitalize on what sets you apart to help you succeed.
Bringing it back to your Chapter
Create a survey
·∙ Distribute within your Chapter to find how your Chapter is diverse. ·∙ Ask more quesSons than the typical demographics to show members examples of what diversity means. Examples:
·∙ What is your major? ·∙ How many student orgs are you in? ·∙ Do you live on or off campus?
Host a Twi?er chat ·∙ Raise awareness about a certain topic by tweeSng about it with your members using an appointed hashtag. ·∙ For example, LSU wanted to raise awareness about microaggression toward women. During Women’s History Month (March), we hosted a Twi\er chat using #geauxPRSSA to discuss the topic with members and ask quesSons to gauge their understanding and opinions.
Collaborate with other student organizaBons
With other organizaSons, you can reach a larger audience and be more successful — whether you’re hosSng an event or serving the community. Examples of other organizaBons: ·∙ (Pre-‐professional): Business fraterniSes and honor socieSes ·∙ (Other): Greek Life, LGBT
Woman of the Week (W.O.W.) PRSSA at LSU decided to celebrate the women of the LSU Manship School of Mass CommunicaSon because public relaSons is such a female-‐heavy industry. Each week, a student would nominate a professor, and she would be featured on the PRSSA at LSU blog and social media. The blog post would honor the W.O.W. for all of her successes and hard work in the public relaSons field.
Diversity of Thought (DOT) Campaign PRSSA at LSU produced the Diversity of Thought campaign to spread awareness about the meaning of diversity across campus. The diversity commi\ee stood in the area of campus with the most traffic and had students write what they loved about LSU on a dot and a chalkboard wall. It showed how every student has a different perspecSve and experience even when they go to the same school.
