Location Scouting‘No Vacancy’ Film Trailer

Possible Location 1

Our first possible location is Elise’s Granddads house. Our reasons for this

location is that it is in Wormley, which isn't too far for all of our group to get too

as well as it being a family house that we can easily get access too. It has a

old abandoned cellar from the early 1900s that we thought would be perfect to

film in, and base our film content around.

The house is an old Victorian house that we feel, with the right

lighting and editing, could have a scary and eerie feel. The house

has a pleasant look to it during the daytime which could be

misleading to the main characters and the audience.

We think that the old fashioned features of the house, such as the naturally

creaky floorboards, the abandoned cellar and the heavy wooden front door

will all make for a better film trailer which adheres to the horror conventions

We choose this location as the cemetery connotes death and

darkness. This is typical of the horror genre, and as there is a

house opposite, it suits our film narrative of a creepy, abandoned

B&B hotel.

A scene will be taking place within our trailer of the characters exploring the

surrounding area of the B&B, to discover there is a church and cemetery.

We will be filming at night to make the audience on edge as they will not see

the bright, sunny, and known area shown above.

The house we are going to be using as our B&B as it is an old

looking building that is opposite the cemetery.

A birds eye view of the cemetery, in relation to the house that we will be

using.

Possible Location 2

Our second possible location is the Marriott hotel in Cheshunt. Our reasons

for this location is that it is near by and with permission we could film here. If

we were to use this location, it would give a more of a ‘The shining’ feel to it.

However, we decided against this as we thought a B&B gives it a more

intimate, personal feel which is a lot scarier for the audience.

Possible Location 2

We decided against using the Marriott hotel for our location as we felt that it is

too urban and modern. It is directly next to the A10 dual carriageway and

therefore the noise pollution will affect our filming and the atmosphere. It

would also be hard to manipulate the set design to our needs and the desired

effect that we are looking for.

Possible Location 3

We decided against using our school for filming our horror trailer, although we

would have permission, it would be free and we could film during school hours

when all members of our group are available, we found that it would be a lot

of work to try and make the set look as if it was an abandoned B&B and also it

does not have a horror feel to it. We also might not be able to film at night as

all teachers would have gone home and the school would be locked.
