4 Durham Scout County Council

OUR FUTURe ASpiRATiONSWe are looking to recruit an inspirational leader who can successfully engage volunteers to support the growth, development and sustainability of scouting across the county.

Our new County Commissioner will share the UK Scout Association’s 2018 vision and through the close involvement of young people and skilled adult volunteers, will ensure that Durham remains one of the north east’s fastest growing Scout counties over time. This will be achieved by exploring innovative ways of developing our provision currently without scouting and by maximising the impact that our resources and staff have.

At a local level, our County Commissioner will refine volunteer management structures and use existing systems (such as effective development planning and role reviews) to ensure that local Scouting is well led. Our County Commissioner will promote effective trusteeship and governance to ensure that at the point of delivery, scouting is very well resourced and supported.

The successful candidate will embrace communication as a priority and ensure that our vision for Scouting across the county is clear and frequently articulated to our membership. They will demonstrate clear and decisive leadership where necessary, challenging stereotypes to bring fresh thinking that will further enhance our ways of working.

Durham Scout County has a growing presence and a strong local reputation. Our new County Commissioner will understand and develop our role as a credible provider of positive activities for young people. The successful candidate will ensure that the county advocates youth engagement and provides a platform for young voices to be heard locally.

Our county is a large charity with a significant budget. Our new County Commissioner will understand the need for robust governance from its own trustees and will work closely our executive committees and staff team to ensure that our assets, including Moor House Adventure Centre, are well managed to support and further our aims.
