All programmes leading to the degree in the area of

engineering shall comprise 7 to 9 semesters on

first-cycle, and 3 or 4 semesters on second-cycle.

In order to acquire a first-cycle higher education

diploma (inżynier) student is obliged to accumulate

210-270 ECTS credits, and 90-120 ECTS credits for

the second-cycle (magister inżynier).

10

All engineering programmes have to fulfilled

requirements defined by the National Qualifications

Framework for Higher Education (Poland) and

learning outcomes in the area of technical sciences

Engineering education

A particular program of study, independently of a

mode of study (full-time or part-time), has to fulfil

the same learning outcomes.

What Is Accreditation ?

Page 14: Kształcenie inżynierów i system akredytacja kierunków technicznych w Polsce i Europie

14

Accreditation is a process by which

educational programs or institutions are

reviewed to determine if they meet certain

standards of quality. Accredited status is not

permanent; it has to be renewed through

periodic review.

Standards and criteria of accreditation define the attributes of the educational system analysed at the unit during the process of accreditation.

Strategy of the unit and its compatibility with the mission of the university and its alignment with regional priorities,

compliance of the unit activities with legal provisions in force, competence of the teaching and research staff, accuracy of determining the learning outcomes and methods of verification

of their achievement by the students, optimal completion of the educational process, content of the degree programmes, teaching and learning conditions, activities aimed at promoting technical sciences among students.

Standards and criteria

of accreditation

Page 35: Kształcenie inżynierów i system akredytacja kierunków technicznych w Polsce i Europie

35

The attributes have been divided into two sections:

basic – meeting of all these attributes is a prerequisite for obtaining accreditation,

additional – meeting of any of these attributes is a testament to the

higher quality of education than meeting only the basic attributes implies.

At least 50% of these attributes in each group have to be met

Attributes

Page 36: Kształcenie inżynierów i system akredytacja kierunków technicznych w Polsce i Europie

36

Basic Attributes (39)

1. Requirements concerning educational strategy of the unit

2. Requirements for teaching staff

3. Requirements for educational content and study programmes

4. Requirements for educational system and organization of studies

5. Requirements for teaching and learning conditions (environment)

Additional Attributes (40)

1. Requirements for teaching staff

2. Requirements for educational content and study programmes

3. Requirements for educational system and organization of studies

4. Requirements for teaching and learning conditions (environment)

Attributes1st Cycle

Page 37: Kształcenie inżynierów i system akredytacja kierunków technicznych w Polsce i Europie

37

1. The unit has a clearly defined strategy, consistent with the strategy

and mission of the parent university.

2. Educational outcomes of the degree programme are consistent with

the mission of the university and strategy of the unit.

3. Learning outcomes of the degree programme are aligned with labour

market needs.

4. Strategy of the unit (university) takes into account stakeholders of the

educational process (students, graduate and doctoral students,

employers, industry associations, government organizations, etc.).

5. The unit has a clearly defined structure of the decision-making

process relating to the organization of the educational process, taking

into account the scope of competence and responsibility of various

bodies and decision makers.

Educational StrategyBasic Attributes 1 cycle.

Page 38: Kształcenie inżynierów i system akredytacja kierunków technicznych w Polsce i Europie

38

1. Curricula for first-cycle study programmes run by the unit both as full-time

and part-time studies for the field of study undergoing accreditation meet the

requirements set by the Law for compliance of the learning outcomes defined

for the given degree programme with the learning outcomes set for the area

of technical sciences degrees or a group of areas for programmes belonging

to many areas. In the case of practical profile of studies, the unit (degree

programme) has to meet the requirements defined in the Regulation issued

by the minister responsible for higher education.

2. Number of ECTS credits required for graduation and duration of first-cycle

studies managed by the unit both as full-time and part-time study

programmes for the field of study being accredited is compliant with the Law.

3. The unit has defined the competencies of a graduate (graduate profile) for

the degree programme under accreditation. Description of competencies

applies to first-cycle studies ran by the unit both as full-time and part-time

study programmes for the field of study being accredited. Description of

competencies of a graduate determines their knowledge, skills and social

competencies related to all specializations making up the given field of study.

Educational Content and Study

ProgrammesBasic Attributes 1 cycle.

outcomes.

2. The unit has developed and implemented a credits system corresponding to

the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS).

3. The university, and thereby its organizational unit, has drawn up study

regulations commonly available to students, which, in accordance with the

Law, determine the principles and procedures for the studies, and the rights

and obligations of students.

4. At the unit, the number of full-time students of the study field being accredited

is not less than the number of part-time students of the same degree

programme (not applicable to non-public schools).

5. The unit (university) makes available the complete and current information

about the educational offer, study programmes and plans, as well as on the

rules of recruitment in printed form or electronically on the website of the unit

or the parent institution.

6. The unit provides students with the opportunity to complete their studies

according to individual programmes and study plans.

1. Among the employees included in the staff minimum and serving as a basis

for the calculation of the student : staff ratio, the appropriate proportion of the

number of professors and associate professors (holders of post-doctoral PhD

hab. degree) to the number of doctors (PhD holders) is maintained. For a unit

running first-cycle study programmes, the above ratio should be no lower

than 1:2.

2. The unit has at least category B in the system of parametric evaluations

determined by the minister responsible for science.

3. The unit has the right to confer academic degrees in technical sciences.

4. In the past two years, the unit participated in exchange programmes involving

teaching and lecturing tasks for academic staff with other universities and

research and scientific institutions.

5. In the implementation of the educational programmes, the unit is supported

by experienced professionals with proven practical experience. Classes that

are entrusted to experts from outside the university are purely technical,

EUR-ACE® Framework Standards

The EUR-ACE® Framework Standards (EFS) that have been developed

and the procedures for their implementation, are intended to be widely

applicable and inclusive in order to reflect the diversity of engineering

degree programmes that provide the education necessary for entry to the

engineering profession.

a) The Standards respect the many traditions and methods of

engineering education in Europe.

b) They can accommodate developments and innovation in teaching

methods and practices.

c) They encourage the sharing of best practice across different

traditions and methods.

d) They can accommodate the development of new branches of

engineering.

EUR-ACE® System

Page 45: Kształcenie inżynierów i system akredytacja kierunków technicznych w Polsce i Europie

45

The EUR-ACE ® Framework Standards define accreditation of an

engineering education programme as the primary result of a process

used to ensure its suitability as the entry route to the engineering

profession.

They are in three parts as follows:

• The Programme Outcomes are the criteria for accrediting agencies

to be authorised to award the EUR-ACE® label to accredited

programmes.

• Guidelines for Programme Assessment and Programme

Accreditation to be used by accreditation agencies when accrediting

engineering programmes.

• The Criteria, Requirements and Procedures to be used as the

basis for accreditation by accreditation agencies awarding the EUR-

ACE ® label.
