Introduction to ICT1. ICT refers to technology that provide access to

information through telecommunications.2. It is similar to Information Technology(IT) , but

focuses primarily on communication technology.3. ICT has more recently been used to describe the

convergence of several technologies and the use of common transmission lines carrying very diverse data and communication types and formats.

4. There are both positive and negative impacts of ICT in our society.

EducationICT has great positive impact in

education sector on teaching, learning and attainment. ICT can empower both teachers and learners. It promotes change to education in 21st century. For example for our assignment in the previously, we have to go to the library to collect or gather information. It is not only a waste of our time but also there is a limit to the information we can get. And now, ICT is saving our time in doing the assignment and there is no limit to the information. Beside these, ICT has also helped in online education and exam sector..

BusinessBusinesses today use technology in almost every face of operation. They communicate with advanced network systems, they analyze data and plot forecasts using complicated programs, they utilize all types of digital media for marketing campaigns, and they streamline operations with new inventory and check-out systems. So, ICT is one of the most required things in business sector.

Banking SectorThe banking sector has embraced the use of

technology to serve its client’s faster and also to do more with less. The bank provide the facility of ATM,E-Banking etc. to the its clientswhich are related to ICT.

Online ShoppingOnline Shopping is very common now a

days. It is very much convenience to shop from computer with an internet connectionanytime. Also it is ea-sy to research productsand services provided by

online shops in Internet.

HackingComputer hacking is the practice of

modifying computer hardware and software to accomplish a goal outside of the creator’s original purpose. People who engage in computer hacking activities are often called hackers. Hacking may results in financial losses, loss of information and damaged reputation.

Spreading Computer Virus

A virus is a program that propagates itself by infecting other programs on the same computer. Viruses can do serious damage to the computer. So, by the use of ICT the virus are spreaded in different computers which may damage the files and information of the computers. Viruses might also steal the information of the computer and send to some other person. It may also result in blasting the computer system.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is an act of using closely imitating the language and thoughts of another author without authorization and the representation of that author’s work as own, as by not crediting the original author. Plagiarism can negatively affect the reputation of a student, teacher, professional.

Unemployment One of the largest negative effects of

ICT can be the loss of a person’s job. Job losses may occur for several reasons, including: Manual operations being replaced by automation. e.g. robots replacing people on an assembly line Job export. e.g. Data processing work being sent to other countries where operating costs are lower.

ConclusionDespite the fact that we cannot really ignore

that there are a number of ways in which technology negatively impacts our society, for the better part it has greatly helped to make out lives better. Technology has greatly helped us to become more efficient thus increasing our productivity. It has also helped us a great deal to be able to save on many resources such as time and money and these are great benefits that cannot be ignored. It has also worked well in bringing unity into the world by turning it into a global village which has in turn helped people to more easily overcome their cultural, racial and continental barriers.
