Looking back - 2007 Focus: devices and equipment •  > 90% Internet access at study-home •  > 80% own a laptop •  > 30% mobile phone with Internet access •  > 70% distinct audio player

Looking back - 2008 Focus: dawning of communication change • e-mails, chat and discussion rooms • Skype and VoiceOverIP rare in use • First social community use (“StudiVZ”) • Web 2.0 = Wikipedia, YouTube (private use) • E-learning not established at secondary school level throughout • LMS little known



Looking back - 2009 Focus: strengthening of trends •  More mobility •  Passive usage of Web 2.0 increased •  Videopods and audiopods doubled •  Social communities boomed in general •  Facebook from 16% to 67% •  But Facebook did not replace StudiVZ •  Students got used to online editing



Looking back - 2010 Focus: dominance of Facebook •  according to social communities •  communication ways •  usage of Web 2.0 customs •  No significant rise of e-reader devices •  Communication is more important than ever •  Increase of usage of Web 2.0 in general as

well as for learning purposes



Looking back - 2011 Focus: Communication and mobility •  Web 2.0 for learning purposes •  LMS = Moodle (secondary schools) •  Social community = Facebook •  Mobile Internet has become usual •  decrease of multiple mobile devices •  increase of smartphones trending to

replace other equipment



Looking forward Focus: From „N“- to „C“-Generation • Students of today are much more used to Web technologies • They recognize Internet as a stable service • The Web allows them to communicate in multiple ways. • The ubiquitous access strengthens the usage of Web 2.0 even for learning
