Advanced search

Have you tried the advanced search in HAMK Finna? It helps you limit your search results to what you actually want to find. In this example, we have searched for books on lean thinking.

Quotation marksWhen searching HAMK Finna for a book by its title, use quotation marks. Or in advanced search, limit the search to title only. That way your search results will only include the books you are looking for. Adding the author’s name will also limit your results. See below how different ways to search change the results:

Field-spesific databases

Do you ever wonder what sort of information HAMK library offers in your field? You can find a list of the databases available in Finna. Under Search, choose Browse for databases. Limit the results to your own field. For more information on database content, click its title. To use the database, click Search the database.

E-journal collection

Do you ever wonder which e-journals HAMK library has subscribed? They have been listed in HAMK Finna: Under Search, choose Browse for e-journals. There are currently 13 722 different e-journals in HAMK collections, so you might like to limit the journal list to your own field.

Limit your results to the articlesyou have access to

International e-materials search in HAMK Finna also finds articles that we have no access to. Narrow your search results to include only those with full text available, and the list will include only the articles you can open in full.

Opening an e-article

Under Available online, you will find the direct links to the full text article. Often there are several links – you can choose any of them. If one of the links does not work, try another.NOTE To get access to article fulltext, first log in HAMK Finna.

SFX? What’s that?

Finna offers you an additional service called SFX. It is a link service that provides you with a link to the full text article or e-book and to other services the library has provided. Here you can easily check whether a book is available anywhere in Finland, or you can search for an article in Google Scholar.

I found an article online, but need to use my creditcard to get fulltext. How can I check if the library hassubscription to it?

1. Use HAMK Finna article search to locate thearticle. Make sure that you have logged in.

2. Use HAMK Finna to find the e-journal in question. Make sure that you have logged in.

3. Connect HAMK collections to Google Scholarand search for the article. On the results list, ifthere is a HAMK link on the right you haveaccess to its fulltext.
