If you’re interested in learning about human impact on the environment then we can start with the obvious.....
But if you’re interested in the effect pollution has on our climate? Finding more specific information means searching using more than one word.
If you want to know about two different causes of climate change you can try a combined search to get results for both phrases.
If you want to find more specific results – try an exact phrase by putting in quotes “ “
You can tell google which words not to search for by putting a ‘-’ next to the words you don’t want to find. This would be good for limiting your search to human rather than natural impacts....
In your research you keep on finding the term ‘greenhouse effect’ – Here’s how you can find out what it means...
• Generally every word matters – all the words you put in will be used
• Search is always case in-sensitive
• Search within a specific website – “Iraq site: Sky News” will bring all the pages on Iraq from the Sky News website
• Fill in the blanks – if you include * it tells Google to use the * as a placeholder for an unknown term [Obama voted * on the * bill]
• To find a video on a particular subject – remember google owns YouTube so will search that site to –
“Video: Climate Change”
• Think of a term you’d like us to search as a class
• What could you combine it with? “___OR___”
• What could you take-away to limit your search?
Whole class task.....
