My Book About Colonial Life in New
Englandby
Goldia Lankster
My parents gave me the name Phoebe Fanny. I have two brothers and three
sisters. My brothers name’s are Thomas Emery and Levi Asa. My sister’s names
are Felicity and Elizabeth Molly and Laura. My mother is named Molly Anna and my father’s name is Timmy Apple. I
am eleven and my brothers ages are twelve and thirteen. My sisters ages are
twelve, eleven and four.
I live in a three bedroom house with a kitchen and one out house. All of the girls share a room. My dad has his own room. My brothers do not have to share a room.
My favorite dress is blue with a white apron. It brings out my eyes. My mom where’s her
orange dress. I only have one dress and when I grow out of it my mother has a spare one for
me.
My mother works at home taking care of the house. She also takes care of
the garden.
I have chores to do every day. I have to help my mother clean the house. My
siblings and I get the crops out of the garden. Helping Mother fix dinner and sew clothes are other chores that I do.
My siblings and I all play with the same toys. We all got along with each other. We play with toys that our father made for us. We only get to play games after out chores
are done.
We eat bacon and sausage for breakfast. For snack we eat some apples and cheese. For lunch
we eat chicken and green beans. Sometimes for dinner we eat steak and apple pie.
I go to a school in Nashville Tennessee. We some times play games if we finish our
work. My teacher’s name is Mrs. Rosanna Burgess. My teacher is very nice to her
class. We use pencils and paper and practice on the hornbook. Sometimes school
is boring.
When I misbehave I have to let my father spank me. Then I have to do
chores all day by myself.
When I misbehave my father spanks me with a whip that has slits in it. It hurts but I need to learn my lesson.
When we get sick we would lay in bed until Mother would bring us
medicine. Sometimes they put leeches on us to suck out the illness.
I go to church every Sunday. We get dressed up and go to church as
family. We sing hymns and listen to the preachers sermon.
Breaking the law in our colony resulted in some form of punishment. Some people would be sent to jail
others would have to pay a fine for breaking the law.
