there are 14 shrimp hatcheries with an installed annual capacity of 505 millions P.L & about 73% (367 millions) of total capacity is produced every year.
Chilika lake:-It is the largest brackish water lake/lagoon in India. It is present in 3 districts in odisha-khuirdha, ganjam, &puri. Its area varies from 1165 km square to 906 km square in monsoon and dry season respectively. The lake sustains more than 1.5 lakh fishing people living in 132 villages on the shore. in chilika lake 217 sp. comprising of 147 genera, 71 families and 15 order were recorded. The commercially important fishes available in the lake are-Tenulosa ilisha, Mugil cephalus, Liza macrolepis, Lates calcarifer, Plotosus canius, Mystus gulio, Etroplus suratensis, Nematolosa nasus, etc. And among prawns Penaeus monodun, Penaeus indicus, Metapenaeus dobsoni, and among crabs Scylla serrata, Portunus pelagicus are available.

FRESH WATER PRODUCTION:-Now there are about 62167 ha of fresh water area is under scientific farming under FFDAs in 30 districts. The average fish production from these area is around 2.13 ton/ha. The average productivity of the reservoir was around 7.5 kg/ha before the reservoir fisheries policy as compared to the national 15kg/ha. But after the policy the productivity is increased to 9.3 kg/ha which is due to the continuous stocking of fingerlings.
