INTRO

It is directed by Christopher Nolan. The film is the final instalment in Nolan’s Batman film trilogy. Christian Bale as batman, with a returning cast of allies: Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Gary Oldman as James Gordon, and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox. The film introduces Selina Kane (Anne Hathaway) and Bane (Tom Hardy) a mercenary bent on destroying Gotham City.

The opening scene of the Dark Knight Rises isn’t bad but it is a bit pointless… Compared to the opening scene of the Dark Knight it is a bit tame and seems sloppy.

STAND OUT MOMENTS

When Bane says “It doesn’t matter who we are, what matters is our plan”. And “No one cared who I was until I put on a mask”.

When he tell the partner to stay on the plane because the fire is already burning.

CONVENTIONS

All conventions are met. Name of the film and principal cast are the only conventions that are not met.

MISE-EN-SCENE

Good mise-en-scene. The clothes worn by the character is adequate, for example Bane wears military clothes because he is a mercenary. And the sciencist is wearing normal clothes because he is not a military scientist. Also the props are well located, for example the kitbags at the end of the plane.

EDITING

The edited is the best of the introduction of the film. For example the special effects when the plane falls. The cuts are also good because when there is action they make more cuts to emphasize the action, meanwhile when it is slow paced there is not as much cuts as when there is action.

CAMERA

The camera is perfect. The camera is always placed in the best areas. For example when bane jumps out from a seat to the floor the camera is placed under him to make you think he has the control now. And there is also handheld movement to emphasize danger.

SOUND

The sound is diegetic sound because there is no music, you only hear the things that are happening.

Page 9: Film Opening Analysis - DKR

ENIGMA

There is enigma also. For example they make you think who is that guy who is going to receive such prisoners, why he says that there is already a fire burning and where are they and what are they doing there.

HOW IT STABLISHES GENRE, CHARACTERS, LOCATIONS AND TIME.

Genre: it stablish the superhero genre because Bane is already wearing a mask, it also stablish the action genre because there is a shooting at the plane.

Characters: giving an introduction to Bane, a Batman enemy.

Location: a green field with mountains.

Time: there is no time stablished.

LINK BETWEEN NARRATIVE, AUDIENCE, GENRE.

The link between narrative, audience and genre is also good. Because this film narrative is a linear narrative there is no flashbacks and the action is fluent, for all audiences, with a Action/superhero genre.
