• Fashion Tourism can be defined as “the phenomenon of people travelling to and staying in places outside their usual environment to enjoy , experiment and possibly consume fashion.

• Fashion tourism is a niche market segment evolved out of two major sectors:

Cultural Tourism and Shopping Tourism

HISTORY OF FASHION TOURISM

• In the early fifteenth century, fashion was considered so important in France.

• Charles the IIV was told to create a separate organization for fashion, even though not many people supported such organizations.

• In the eighteenth century, people became more aware of the importance of fashion and style as news agents, fashion magazines printed in bright colored glossy paper, newspapers.

• Fashion is one of the most influential

phenomenon in western civilization.

• An understanding of fashion contributes to the

understanding of ourselves and our personal style

based on our cultural background, beliefs and

environment.

MARKET• Fashion tourism is another alternative form of tourism

that attracts tourists from different parts of the world.• This trend is gradually becoming one of the more

sought after niche in the tourism markets.• Tourists seek destination that fulfils their needs,

wants and desires for new tastes in garments, shoes, bags accessories, shopping and the overall experience of the destination’s culture that reflects its creativity, innovation and knowledge of the country.

• The tourists are made to actively participate in the destination’s fashion experience

• Cultural tourism is the subset of fashion tourism concerned with a country or region's culture, specifically the lifestyle of the people in those geographical areas, the history of those peoples, their art, architecture, religions that helped shape their way of life

SHOPPING TOURISMShopping has become a motive to travel and is now a major tourist activity. Visitors are increasingly choosing shopping as a way to experience local culture ,products and an opportunity to interact with local people.

Shopping is regarded as one of the most common and interesting activities being under-taken by tourists because, it provides motivation for travel

• Fashion tourism has a huge impact on the economy of a destination.

• With the growing trend of fashion tourism many countries have felt the need of making more developed fashion malls for Commercial exchanges .

• When a tourist comes to a destination specially during the fashion week festival season it also leads to growth in the other infrastructure such as hotels, transportation, food etc.
