The Department of English was established in the year 1982. The college started with B.A. and B.com courses. Language English is compulsory for both these courses. Keeping in pace with new trends in education and job opportunities, plans are there to introduce new subjects and combination of Journalism, Optional English and Political science.
The Department of English aims for the Holistic development of the students. The remarkable achievement of our department is in terms of successful graduates who are now serving the society in diverse capacities in various central, state and private organization.

ACTIVITIES CONDUCTED BY ENGLISH DEPARTMENT
2012-13• The department conducted the following activities. • A pick and speak contest was held on 15th April 2013. Several students participated. • An essay writing competition was conducted on 17th April 2013. • The topic given was “Importance of English language in today’s world” students
participated in large number and prizes were awarded for the winners of the competition.• Workshop on Communicative English was conducted by John D’cruz Gomes.
2013-14 The Dept. has conducted various activities to impart knowledge and skill to rural students.• Pick and speak contest was held on 8th April 2013.• An essay writing competition was held on 12th April 2013 to improve the writing skill of
the students.• Puzzles and games like word building and jumbled words were conducted on
06.01.2014 • Guest lecture by Prof. B. Gangadharamurthy, National College Gauribidanur was • arranged. Topic: Teaching English for rural students.

2014-15• Pick and speak contest was conducted on 04.09.2014.• An essay writing competition was held on 24.01.2014 to improve the
writing skill of students. • Topic: Dress codes in college/ Reservation: Ban or Boon • A special guest lecture was arranged on 21.10.2014 to improve the listening
skills of the students.• Resource person: Prof. Ananda Rao – Topic “Pleasure of reading”.• Another special guest lecture was arranged on 18.03.2015• Resource person Prof. Raghothamachar B.S. -Topic “The Role of
literature in the present scenario”.• Debate was conducted. Topic: Should cell phones be allowed in College/• Women empowerment: A myth or a reality?• Work shop on communication skill was conducted by Mr. Navin and team
on 06-09-2014.• Article writing and advertisement competition were also conducted.
